Trip 12 (3 day) Aug 4 Mid-day Report

August 5th, 2016|Categories: Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

Our morning today was way more action-packed than yesterday morning – we have had some fair fishing on kelp. Here is a nice yellowtail caught by Gary Wheeler! We only have a couple of hours left before we head for home, so we are hoping for one more good kelp to end the trip!

Home soon!

Trip 12 (3 day) Aug 4 Report

August 4th, 2016|Categories: Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

Well, I’m glad to say that our afternoon was a lot more action-packed than this morning! 🙂 We found a couple of kelp that had some hungry yellowtail. We also caught a few nice dorado today, like this dandy caught by Greg Thacher.

Capped off our day with a great dinner: braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts, followed by a delicious dessert, boat-made fruit cobbler. We’re gonna spend tomorrow here – hoping to repeat what we did this afternoon!

We were keeping it simple today – 40 lb straight to a 3/0 J hook with a sardine.

More later,

Trip 12 (3 day) Aug 3 Mid-day Report

August 3rd, 2016|Categories: Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

Checking in with good news – although we literally had nothing to report til lunch today, we found our first kelp about 7 minutes before lunch was to be served!  We were able to catch some nice fish off the kelp and we’re definitely happy with that. Here is a sample of some nice yellowtail caught by the group.  Steve Sawtell, pictured in orange, was able to land his very first yellowtail – nice work!

The weather has been odd today, but it’s nothing to stop us from continuing.  More later!

Trip 11 (3 day) Aug 1 Report

August 2nd, 2016|Categories: Trip Reports|

transmitted at 7 pm on Aug 1, 2016

Hello all,

Well, we saw enough fish today to have a good day fishing, though we couldn’t get them all to bite. We were observing yellowfin tuna in the 12-20 pound range – we managed to land some too. We caught some dorado on kelp paddies today so we had a little action there as well. Crewmember Ben Hart is pictured with Anthony Feroce from Chandler, AZ – who landed a yellowfin tuna that Ben hooked up using one of our Hook and Hand outfits supplied by Accurate Products and Seeker Rods. Thanks to them for the great gear and the sponsorship.

Great weather again today, calm seas and light winds. What a great 3-day trip it has been with this group from High Desert Communications. There are some pretty good signs of fish around now so we hope it continues!

Dinner soon, Chef Charley’s making fresh yellowtail with roasted red pepper rice pilaf, roasted squash, salad and fresh bread. Yum!  We’ll be back tomorrow morning.

Hello anglers,

Our mid-day report isn’t quite as good as yesterday’s…but we have found some dorado and yellowfin tuna today – our targets for today! Here is a group photo of a recent stop on a kelp paddie. Lots of fun and some nice size dorado. Hoping for more!

Will send an update later.

Trip 11 (3 day) July 31 Report

August 1st, 2016|Categories: Trip Reports|

transmitted at 9pm July 31, 2016

Hello all,

We had a spectacular day of fishing today! Everyone from this group from High Desert Communications landed enough yellowtail to last them a while in their freezers. The weather was awesome with calm seas, sunny skies and light winds. Check out the group photo of some of the yellowtail we landed. There were a few dorado in the mix as well.

Dinner tonight was BBQ ribs with Chef Charley’s signature barbecue sauce, corn on cob and potato salad.  So good!

We are headed north to try for yellowfin tuna tomorrow.  More later.
