Sep 27 (7-Day Trip) Seeker Trip to Guadalupe Island

September 27th, 2021|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening anglers,

We arrived on scene at 1pm and started seeing scattered sign of yellowfin right away. We put our anchor down around 2pm and started picking pretty quickly on 75lb yellowfin. A few are bigger, a few smaller.

The sharks were a bit of a menace and they got their share, but we got ours too. We see some sign of yellowtail here as well and picked off a few beauties. We’re going to try it again tomorrow.

Thank you to Fred and the Seeker team for sponsoring this trip and bringing great giveaways!

Hello all.

We started our trip last night flat falling for bigger bluefin tuna. We saw plenty of fish but they didn’t bite that great! We got a sample of fish in the 100 pound range. We have been anchored since daylight with plenty of opportunity to catch a bluefin. The weather is great with no wind and very little sea condition.

Same method as before with a live sardine and 30 pound line and a small hook.

Hello anglers:

We has steady action today on bluefin  tuna. We had opportunities all day to land a nice one. There were mostly 25-40 pound fish with an occasional 60-70 pound fish.

Hello all,

We had the same fishing program today except with a midday stop for some bottom fishing for fish taco meat. We had plenty of opportunity to land a bluefin tuna. We are still having success with a flylined live sardine on 30-pound line and a small hook.

Hello anglers,

We had a little action last night flat falling lures on a school of larger bluefin tuna. We had multiple bites and capitalized on 7 fish over 100 pounds and one or two could be 200 pounds.Currently we are anchored and hooking 30-40 pound bluefin. This morning it is all flyline sardine with 30 pound line and floro carbon and a #1 hook.

Here is a photo of one of the biggest fish we landed last night.

Hello anglers,

We had some good action at times today with plenty of opportunities to catch a quality bluefin tuna. The weather is up a little tonight, so we hope it diminishes so we can try flat falling again. Flyline sardine was the prefered method. Trying this spot again tomorrow.

Congrats, Ben!

Good morning anglers,

Pretty rough weather out here today making fishing difficult. We started on the anchor this morning, and were seeing good sign of yellowtail and some sign of bluefin.  We caught a few yellowtail but no tunas.  We see some sign of big bluefin but not the quantity we were seeing yesterday. We started looking around and we’re just getting back on it. The weather’s calming down so we are hoping for a big afternoon.

Good evening anglers,

The weather calmed down quite a bit in the afternoon and there was a very good sign of big bluefin this afternoon. They were not very cooperative however . We did have a few bites on the sinker rig, including this one Logan landed weighing in at 160lbs. We had a few kite bites as well, most of which did not stick.

Good morning anglers,

We had some opportunity to catch some trophies last night when we arrived on scene at about 11pm. We managed a handful, including this 200+-pounder.

We’re seeing some incredible sign of 70lb class fish at the moment. We had a very good opportunity first thing in the morning but didn’t fare too well.  We’ve got the cobwebs out and we’re scratching away at this beautiful grade of bluefin.

A trophy!

Good evening anglers,

We scratched up a nice day on 25-90lb bluefin today. There was an absolutely incredible sign here all day. It’s really a sight to see. They were not in the biting mood however. 40lb test fly lined bait was the go-to rig. Long drifts and picky fishing. We’re going for trophies tonight.

Good morning anglers,

Very good opportunity last night with 120-200lb fish on the flat falls.  We gave it until about 11:30 and scored some trophys.  We have been plunking on this 30lb bluefin all morning and it’s been pretty fun fishing!  Nice weather, long drifts, with between 2-7 going at a time.  We’re getting bites on 40lb so were landing most of what we hook now.  Incredible sign of this fish around and its in a biting mood at the moment so needless to say we’re enjoying it!

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening anglers,

We’ve had a great day on this 30lb grade bluefin. We are able to drift on it most of the day with 1-8 going most of the time. They are biting the fly lined 40lb.  We had three stops that made up our day. We did catch a few of those 60-70lbers like the previous days, just not as many but we are happy with this beautiful grade of fish.
