Jul 14 (4 day trip) Poseidon Fishing Adventures

July 15th, 2021|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Hello anglers,

We had a nice start this afternoon on our annual 4-day trip with Poseidon Fishing Adventures on board. We had some opportunities to fish mixed-size bluefin tuna. We had fish in the 40 -50 pound class, a few 70-80 pound fish, and four fish over 100 pounds.

TACKLE TIP: A flyline sardine on 40-80 pound line with matching florocarbon leader and a 2/0-4/0 circle hook.

We’re having dinner and then trying for more tuna tonight.

IS YOUR PASSPORT VALID?

July 14th, 2021|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, News|

Please check it now to make sure it’s valid through the dates of your fishing trip!

It can take several weeks, or longer due to high demand (like during summer travel), even with expediting to renew a passport and they are currently required for all our fishing trips. Our policy states that deposits are non-refundable if you haven’t renewed your passport in time.

Passport books or the passport card are valid for use on fishing trips.

(The actual passport is required, not a copy or an expired one. And birth certificates and Enhanced Driver’s Licenses are not substitutes.)

Pro Tip: Renew early so that future renewal dates do NOT coincide with fishing season. Waiting for a renewal while your trip approaches is no fun! And you must send in your current passport with the renewal application so you won’t have it to use.

Good morning anglers,

We had some good flat fall fishing last night on 70-130# bluefin from 3 -5 am.  We fired up and went about a mile and stopped on a massive school of mixed grade fish(20-150lbs).  We’ve been plunking since the sun came up with 2-5 fish going.  It’s pretty good fishing this morning, lots of heartbreaks, lots of success, and lots of fun.

Good evening anglers,

We had steady action action all afternoon.  We got into another plunker on some more manageable grade today.  The stop this afternoon was on 25-60lbers.

As for the tackle tip today: 40lb flylined sardine was the ticket.  Some were getting bites fly lining 50lb and that was even better.

We’re headed home now everyone is tired from fishing all day and all night the last 3 days, so no flat falling tonight.

Good morning anglers,

We got into the zone late in the evening on Sunday.  We saw a very good sign of school-grade fish and very good sign of jumbo-size bluefin. They didn’t react or bite before the sun went down, but we got some very good opportunities on 100-200lb fish on the flat falls

We’re still seeing it here this morning just not getting any bites yet.

Good evening anglers,

We had a long morning of non-biting fish, but we finally got on some biters here in the afternoon.  We worked through 30 miles of water. Most of it had good sign of bluefin from 20-200lbs in it.

We finally got on some biting fish this afternoon and got pretty busy right before dark on 30-70lb bluefin.  We’re starting to get some bites on the flat falls as well now.

Hello anglers:

(Due to an issue with satellite connection this trip, fishing photos will be shared after the trip!)
We got started on our annual Seeker Rods sponsored trip with Sophia H as pro-staffer on board. We are off to a good start this trip with some action yesterday afternoon. And then we had some action last night on 20-30 pound bluefin tuna with a few yellowfin mixed in.  Oh, and the weather is awesome!

Hello anglers:

(Due to an issue with satellite connection this trip, fishing photos will be shared after the trip!)
Today we saw lots and lots of bluefin tuna schools, but we couldn’t get them to bite. Later in the day, we found some yellowtail to work on. Flylining a sardine was the best method.

We are hoping for some night action from these bluefin tonight. Wish us luck!

Jul 4-6 (1.5 day trip)

July 6th, 2021|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening anglers,

We had a little opportunity last night on the flat falls and managed some 100+lbers on the way down to the area we wanted to fish  The rest of the day was very slow for us. There was a very good sign this morning, but the fish were not reacting and the sign seemed to dissipate throughout the day. We’re seeing them now again tonight. We’re hoping for another flat fall hit this evening.

Good morning anglers,

We are seeing some sign this morning and we had a nice little plunker.  We’re hoping to get back on them this afternoon.  It’s the same sort of fishing–slow plunker style. We’re moving to a new spot now.

Good evening anglers,

We got back on the fish this afternoon and got a shot at some nice 20-60lb bluefin.  They were biting so we settled into a nice plunker right before the sun went down on primarily 50lbers.  We’ll call it a pretty fun afternoon.  It’s a very good sign, and we hope it keeps up!
