Tackle Tip Thursday Vol. 146 (Surface Iron Outfits)
Tackle Tip Thursday is here! Steve C. from Penn Fishing discusses the set- ups for surface iron fishing. Check it out in his tackle tip video.
Steve prefers using a 9-foot rod (rated for 25-50#), a Penn Fathom 25 narrow reel with star drag, 100-yard topshot of 40# mono, but watch the video for a NEW way to rig up for this fun way to fish yellowtail.

May 2 (2.5 day trip)
Good morning anglers,
We’ve had some good action on the yellowtail up to 15 lbs today. Much nicer conditions down here in our new location. We have also been seeing good signs of mixed-grade bluefin here. We’re seeing and hooking some big ones down here, but we haven’t landed any yet. Hopefully we get some more opportunities this afternoon. Here is Gary with a yellowtail off the first kelp of the day.

Good evening anglers,
We saw good sign of these big bluefin this afternoon amd evening. They were not very “user friendly” however. Mike did manage to land a 50lb on the flat fall though. We also scraped up a few more yellowtail this afternoon. We’re going to poke around for a few hours and see if we can “flat fall” some up.

May 1 (2.5 day trip)
Good morning anglers,
We’ve had a few opportunities at the bluefin this morning. They are not cooperating all that well, but we’ve managed to score a few including this one. Bill caught this tuna on the flat fall early this morning. The fish are 15-30lbs. We have very tough conditions this morning, but we’re hanging in there.
Captain Mike and the boys
Good evening anglers,
Conditions deteriorated in the bluefin zone but we did scratch a couple more today. Then we got into some yellowtail which were 10-12 pound average. With weather conditions worsening for this zone, we’re going to slide south and try a new area with good reports.

Offshore Fish Report April 29
Hello anglers,
We are preparing for our first offshore trip leaving tonight. The crew and I are excited! The offshore report has improved with bluefin tuna being landed this week again. The fish are in 20-35 pound range, with a few bigger ones in the dark. The smaller fish are responding to live sardines, so make sure you have your 25-40 pound outfit with fluorocarbon and #2 hooks. There is still a chance for a bigger fish, so make sure you have your heavy outfit that we have recommended also! Here’s the list of suggested tackle: Spring Offshore Tackle Suggestions

Yellowtail pulled a no-show today, but the rockfish and other bottom fish kept everyone really busy. Fish tacos for dinner!
