Trip #22 Herzog 2-day (Sept 20-22)

September 21st, 2019|Categories: Trip Reports|

Good afternoon anglers,

We started off this morning struggling to find something to stop on. Just before lunch time we found a nice school of 15-30lb yellowfin that bit a little bit. We have spent the last couple hours looking at non biting schools of bluefin. We’re on the hunt for some more yellowfin now. Here is Rees with a 25lb yellowfin he caught on 20lb and a fly lined sardine.

Trip #22 Herzog 2-day (Sept 20-22)

September 21st, 2019|Categories: Trip Reports|

Good evening anglers:

We departed today on a 2-day charter with great guys from Herzog Electric. We heard the local fishing had been good this morning so we were excited to get out there. We immediately started seeing fish once we got in the zone.  We had a nice couple hour drift on 15-25lb yellowfin this afternoon, capped off by a small sample of 40lb class bluefin right at dark.  Here is Ryan and Alfredo with their bluefin caught on the sinker rig.

Safety reassurances from Team Searcher

September 20th, 2019|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, News|

The passenger-carrying vessel community sustained a devastating loss this month when a fire on the dive boat Conception resulted in a tragic loss of lives—a horrific event for passengers, families and the entire boating community. Investigations are on-going and we stand ready to learn what we can from this tragedy.

For the present we want to reassure Searcher Sportfishing passengers that our rigorous safety standards are in place as usual. Be assured that our captain will review all safety precautions aboard Searcher during the presentation upon departure including:

  • identifying our trained crew as your point of contact
  • demonstrating all boat and below-decks exits in the event of an emergency
  • describing fire-fighting procedures
  • identifying location of all smoke detectors
  • reviewing of all state-of-the-art safety equipment.

All such announcements and demonstrations are required by US Coast Guard, as are regular drills and inspections of all mechanical and safety items. As a SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) vessel, Searcher is held to a rigorous level of safety requirements (including for fire detection, protection and extinction), including life-saving and life-preserving equipment due to the fact we are permitted to operate international departures.

We know concern is at an all-time high and plan to ensure everyone stays safe while traveling with us. Please contact our office if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for your trust!

Hello anglers,

We have had good action on 15-25 pound yellowfin tuna this morning. Everyone has landed at least a couple of fish, though we’ve had been losses as well. We hope to keep this up for awhile. Here is Brent with a nice yellowfin caught on a live sardine and 30 pound line.

September 18th, 2019|Categories: Trip Reports|

Hello anglers,

We started out yesterday in the yellowfin tuna area that we had success in last trip. We just had a sample for our efforts. This morning we started out landing some nice-size fish and close to everyone had a chance to land their first tuna. Here is Bert with his first tuna of the day with his old friend Ryan. The happy face says it all!

Trip: 20B NEW! 1.5 day (Sept 15-17, 2019)

September 16th, 2019|Categories: Trip Reports|

Hello anglers,

We stopped early this morning with a skipjack on the troll. After catching a few skipjack we landed our first yellowfin tuna it was a nice size fish about 25 pounds on a live sardine. We drifted for a while catching an occasional yellowfin and some more skipjack. Everyone had a chance to land a nice size yellowfin and those who didn’t tagged a couple of skipjack that the crew took care to bleed and get in the fish hold quickly so it could be used for POKE!! (Our chef Dan has an excellent recipe.)

Here is Capt Art’s son Matthew with a nice size yellowfin tuna. Hoping for more later.

Afternoon update:

Hello anglers

We had great action all day with mixed yellowfin tuna and skipjack. We ended the day with a good stop on yellowfin tuna. A live sardine with 25-30 pound and a 2/0 J-hook was the method of choice, although a few fish were caught on poppers and colt snipers. Here is Wilson F.with one of his yellowfin.
