Day for yellowtail

August 10th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers; We made the long run to catch some yellowtail and it paid off. We had excellent fishing this afternoon on 18-25 pound yellowtail. A flyline sardine on 40-pound test line was the method of choice today. A few fish were caught on yo-yo iron. Lots of fun had by all. We are spending the night and trying again tomorrow. Owen Yuen from Sacramento is pictured with a nice yellowtail.

Great day of yellowtail fishing

August 7th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Today was a great day of fishing! The yellowtail were biting throughout the morning and into early afternoon. Everyone had a chance to catch plenty of yellows. The method of choice was a dropper loop set-up with 50-80 pound test, a 4/0 – 6/0 J hook, and a 16 oz torpedo sinker, all with a live sardine and down to the bottom. There were a few fish caught with the yo-yo method, a 6x jr blue and white as usual, with 40-60 pound test line. We all had a really good time today with lots of laughs and comraderie at the rail with all our friends from Strictly Fish in Lakewood. We deserved to have a good day after paying some dues offshore the two days prior. We are travelling north tonight to get closer to home and have more fishing time on Thursday with hopefully a chance at some bluefin tuna. Team Searcher

Hello anglers: Unfortunately we don’t have much to report. It has been very slow fishing the past two days.We decided to take advantage of the good weather and stay offshore for tuna. The bluefin didn’t bite yesterday and we only caught a few nicer yellowfin today. Karin Bartels from New Jersey landed this nice yellowfin tuna this afternoon. We are headed for yellowtail tonight with high hopes of having some action for the next 2 days. Team Searcher
