Oct 17–Day’s end

October 17th, 2010|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers, We had steady action for about 2-1/2 hours after lunch today and we landed 60 more yellowtail in the 12 to 16 pound range. We saw some good schools and most of them bit a little. The primary method was yo-yo iron with a few fish on dropper loop and fly-line live sardine. The weather is awesome with light winds and cool temperatures. We hope to duplicate our day tomorrow with a few more of the better-grade fish. We didn’t see a whole lot of the bigger fish today so we are hoping tomorrow is the right day. Capt Art

Hello anglers, We arrived at Cedros Island at 3 pm and with good water conditions, we checked out the weather side. Unfortunately we didn’t connect on the fish. There was a tremendous amount of life with bait, birds, and dolphins but no fish. We are spending the night and we are hopeful for tomorrow with good reports from the south end. More tomorrow. howdy anglers, Today was a nice way to end the trip by adding a little “color” to the pile. We had fair fishing on the rockfish and our weather is flat grease calm. We will be arriving tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. and then leaving the following day for another 5-day with Capt Art at the helm. That will be our last trip for 2010 and know it’ll be a great way to cap the season. Good angling and hope to see you on the water soon, Capt Aaron p.s. Kiana and Mika: Papi will see you soon!

Oct 12: A report and a sea monster story

October 12th, 2010|Captain Mike's Blog|

Howdy anglers, Today was a little better than yesterday and we also had a amazing battle with a good ending. The yellowtail fishing was better today but still a bit slow. We had good signs but the fish weren’t eager to bite full speed. We had some really nice-sized fish come aboard–in the 40lb range. And now for the amazing battle: During our yellowtail bite this morning, a monster black sea bass bit a 6x jr on 30lb and the fight was on. The battle lasted about 45 min total and when the beast was brought to the surface we were all in awe. The fish was easily 400lbs! It was safely lowered back to the bottom, released to fight again. So we’re headed up the line to try for some “bottom grabbers” and then call it a trip. The weather has been awesome this whole time and we’re very happy for that. Good angling and hope to see ya on the water soon, Capt. Aaron p.s. Mika and Kiana: Papi can’t wait to bring you out on the boat someday. Good night and sleep tight!

howdy anglers: Today was a slow day for us at Cedros Island but we’re hoping to get a hit on them tomorrow. We saw good signs today but they weren’t interested in what we had to offer. Tomorrow’s a new day. Good angling and hope to see ya on the water soon, Capt. Aaron p.s. Mika and Kiana: Papi is fine and trying to catch you a fish or two!

Howdy anglers: Today was a nice way for some warm-up fishing. We had some good signs of the premium-grade yellows this afternoon and managed to get some aboard. The weather is very good and is supposed to stay nice for the next couple of days too. We’re gonna try again tomorrow early for some more yellows here at Cedros Island. Good angling and hope to see you on the water soon, Capt. Aaron p.s. Mika and Kiana: Papi says “Good night and give your mom a kiss for me!”
