4th of July

July 4th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello all, Happy 4th of July to you all! We had high hopes for today based on yesterday’s reports. Unfortunately we should have been here yesterday. Conditions are the same but there wasn’t the same sign of bluefin tuna today. We landed a few bluefin tuna and we had some action on small yellowtail. I’m sure it was just a down day.We landed our first dorado of the year. Ted Okon from Santa Clarita was the lucky angler. We have a report from a little further south of some bluefin tuna so we are headed there tonight. The weather is great with light winds and no swell. We are loking forward to tomorrow. Team Searcher

Offshore update

July 2nd, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers, There has been some excellent fishing the past few days on 1.5 day trips at 130 miles from San Diego. The boats have been catching bluefin tuna from 25 to 60 pounds. There is also good fishing for yellowtail on the smaller side, but lots of fun on lighter tackle. If you have been wqaiting for an opportunity to get on a 1.5 day trip we have space available on the 9th and returning in the am of the 11th. You can book direct thru Fishermans Landing at 619-221-8500 or www.fishermanslanding.com.
We also have space later in the month on 1.5 day trips leaving the 21st and the 23rd. Call Celia at 619-226-2403. Don’t miss out on a chance to catch some quality bluefin tuna.

Hello anglers” We had pretty steady action today right up until we ran out of time. We have mixed sizes of yellowtail with the majority of them in the 6-10 pound range. The weather turned out to be great with very little wind and sunny skies. Besides the bluefin tuna we landed on the troll this morning, we landed one other 25 pound fish Barry Rauchle from San Ramon was the lucky angler.

Barry is pictured with Capt. Aaron who got the assist. We are headed home and looking forward to the next trip on Wedensday.

June 27–Day’s end

June 28th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We ended up landing five of those big bluefin tuna. We hooked 12 or 13 of those fish. Jack Bair from Huntington Beach had the hot hand–anding 3 out of 4 so his trip is made. We had some action on 18-25 pound yellowfin tuna while we were drifting and after the long drift we had a couple of other stops as well. We also tagged some smaller grade yellow tail through out the day.
The weather was phenomenal with almost no wind and calm seas. We are staying the night and trying again tomorrow.

p.s.  We have a small glitch with our camera, so photos are delayed–sorry!

June 28th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Today we were hoping to repeat our chance at a big bluefin tuna but unfortunately they didn’t show up. We did have some action on yellowfin tuna and everyone had a chance at catching the 18-25 pound fish that are in the same area as the big bluefin tuna. At least where the bluefin were yesterday. Today we had very little sign on those bigger tuna. A little weather change may have contributed to it with a little bit of wind. We released several yellowtail today and tomorrow we are going to concentrate on yellowtail offshore. We are moving northwest all night tonight and we will have most of the day tomorrow.

June 27–mid-day report

June 27th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers,
Today is a much better day than yesterday. There is no wind, it’s foggy at times and we have a better sign of tuna. We found a spot of 90-100 pound bluefin and we have landed four, lost six, and we still have one hooked. Jack Bair landed two,, Rob Geiger and his girlfreind Maria Lambert each landed one. Not too many people can say the first fish they ever hooked was a 100 pound bluefin tuna, but now Maria can!. There are fisherman on board this trip that have been trying for a fish of that size for decades and haven’t landed one. There are some smaller yellowfin tuna mixed in as well.
More later, Capt Art

June 26th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers,
Today was our first day of fishing in 2013. The weather is great and there is a sign of bluefin tuna 200 miles from San Diego. We saw three different schools this afternoon, but we think the timing was wrong–they didn’t bite. There were some good size tuna in two of the schools, which made it pretty exciting. It sounds like the better fishing was in the morning so we are spending the night to try again tomorrow. The forecast is good for the next three days so we have a chance to get some quality fish.
There is also a sign of mixed size yellowtail on the kelp paddies.
More tomorrow, Team Searcher

Offshore scene update

June 13th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: It’s time to get the offshore fishing gear out and get on a trip! The offshore scene has really improved over the past three days. There have been some really good catches of 30 -50 pound bluefin tuna within 3-day range. There are some bigger bluefin tuna in the mix as well, with a few fish over 100 pounds. If you haven’t got a reservation on an upcoming trip now would be the time. There is also some great fishing in the 1.5-day range–plenty of yellowtail in the 8-12 pound range and some bluefin tuna up to 50 pounds.
We have openings on many trips in the near future. Don’t miss out on a chance to catch a fish of a lifetime. Call or email Celia and get on a trip.
See you on the grounds,
Capt Art
