Hey Anglers, Excellent yellowtail fishing at Cedros Island today! About half of our fish are the good ones–25-30 pounds–and the rest are 14-22 pounds. Good fishing with a surface iron today and we got several fish on the yo-yo iron. Of course there were also plenty of fish caught on fly-line sardine by the people that aren’t expert in casting. The weather was great with calm seas and no wind. We are headed north tonight to try our luck with catching an albacore or some sort of tuna. More tomorrow, Capt Art

Hey Anglers, We had good yellowtail fishing today at Cedros Island. The majority of the fish were caught on fly-line sardines with a few fish caught on surface iron. All of the fish are good grade, averaging 20 or more pounds. The weather is great and we are looking forward to tomorrow. We are spending another full day here at Cedros. On the local scene today there was some good news. A boat at 65 miles from San Diego caught 15 albacore today. They saw fish on the meter and sonar, and it was mixed sizes–13-24 pounds. Another boat got in the area late and had a few fish. A little further south, around 150 miles from San Diego, a boat had six albacore today so hopefully this is the start to a great season. Some more good news from here is our new chef is doing a wonderful job with some new fresh ideas. Everyone has enjoyed his cooking so far! More tomorrow, Capt Art

Hey Anglers, We looked at a lot of really good water today with good temperatures and color. We found lots of bait and a few birds. Unfortunately we didn’t find any fish. The weather is good and we have high hopes for tomorrow. The new tackle box area is working out great with plenty of room for everyone’s boxes. More tomorrow, Capt Art

Maintenance Coming to an End!

May 27th, 2008|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers! We have been working hard on Searcher (she turned 38 years old this week) for the last month. We have created improved and enlarged areas for tackle box storage and reconfigured our engine hatches. The crew and I have been putting in some long hours over several weeks to get this done as well as complete other maintenance like painting and re-fiberglassing during our annual dry-dock period. It appears like the timing is perfect for this project to wrap up, since the tuna are showing up! Capt Art

Oct 10 and 11

Hey anglers, Yesterday we fished San Benito island. We arived there in the afternoon. We had a little action on good size yellowtail in various spots. There was a good sign of fish on all the spots but it didn’t want to bite all that well. Today we fished the coast south of Cedros island and Cedros island itself. We had great fishing on 12-18 pound yellowtail on yo-yo irons and dropper loops. After lunch we moved up to the lee of Cedros and we had a good bite on those big yellows–25-35 pounds–late in the day. What a way to end our fishing season for 2007 with more of those great fish! Headed for the coast tonight to stay out of the weather. Hoping for god travelling home tomorrow, Capt Art

Hey anglers, We had another day at Guadalupe Island fishing for quality size yellowfin tuna. We landed 13 fish and almost everyone has a tuna. We had a few fish on the kite today so that made it exciting. We tried our best to get everyone a tuna and almost succeeded. Joe Preciado had a good day, landing three of those nice tuna. We are headed east tonight and we will be about 50 miles west of the coast looking for kelp paddies and dorado tomorrow morning with the plan of fishing for yellowtail in the afternoon. The weather is good and so we hope to have good conditions for looking in the morning. Capt Art
