July 2 – day’s end report

July 2nd, 2007|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hey Anglers, We had a phenomenal day today, with excellent albacore fishing! The fish are 16-25 pounds, with the majority over 20 pounds. Most of the fish were caught on live bait with a few fish on artificial lures. There were plenty of jigstrikes. The black and purple Zuker lure with a amber head was the hot troll feather. Long-time Searcher passenger Hal Guy, from Canoga Park, caught a limit of albies today. Hal had a great day. We are headed for the coast to try for some yellowtail tomorrow for something different. Great fun was had by all today. More tomorrow, Capt Art

Hello Anglers, Today we fished 90 miles south of San Diego. There was some good fishing for several boats in this area today. Unfortunately we had to work for every fish. We ended up with 42 albacore and 1 bluefin tuna. The encouraging thing is the distance between the areas of fish–it’s about twenty miles with signs of albies throughout. The weather is good–less than 15 knots of wind and a 4-6 foot swell. Hopefully we can get the fish located early and stay on them all day. More tomorrow, Capt Art

The 1.5 trip total was 54 albacore! The jackpot fish was 30# and was caught by Arthur Guevara of Anaheim, California.

At 10 a.m. the boat had 15 albacore aboard, in the 20# size. They pick up a few at every stop and they’re in the “tuna zone.” We’ll check in again tonight.

Anglers: It’s mid-afternoon and we have 17 albacore and 2 yellowtail so far today. The weather is good out here at 60 miles from San Diego. The albacore are both troll and bait fish and are in the 20-22# range. We’ll be fishing until dark and hope to land some more for our 24 passengers. Capt Aaron

Tuesday report

We finished up our yellowtail fishing at Cedros Island this morning. Everyone has as much yellowtail as they want! We also caught a few nice halibut–Scott Carr, Tony Marasco, and John Stanley were the lucky anglers there. We are heading north to place ourselves in the bluefin tuna and albacore zone. Wish us luck as we try to land the first albacore on our deck for 2007. More later, Capt Art
