“I Brought Home the Fish–Now What?!”
With yellowtail and dorado hitting the deck, we have an idea sure to impress family and friends at home. Make dinner!
Our very own Chef Charley Erichsen developed this fresh herb marinade for serving with grilled yellowtail or dorado. Anglers on our recent trips have been clamoring for the recipe after enjoying it from Charley’s galley.
Herb-Marinated Grilled Yellowtail or Dorado
- Blend all ingredients in a food processor to a smooth, thick puree. Add olive oil as you blend – the end result should be should be pourable.
- Divide fresh yellowtail or dorado fillets into 6-8 oz. portions
- Pour marinade over the fillets, marinate for 30-45 minutes in a non-metallic container. The marinade should touch all sides of the fish.
- Preheat the grill. Prep your grill for grilling directly over high heat and finishing over indirect high heat.
- Place your marinated fillets over the preheated grill on direct high heat, and salt with a sprinkling of coarse sea salt.
- Grill for 2-3 minutes per side.
- After grill marks are evident, place over indirect high heat for 4-7 minutes with the grill lid down.
San Diego Angler Foundation: Warriors on the Water Fishing Program
Team Searcher is dedicated to supporting our local fishing community, including the efforts of the San Diego Anglers Foundation. Earlier this year we donated a trip to their annual banquet to help raise funds for their critical programs, like Warriors on the Water. This program provides disabled military personnel the opportunity to reconnect with their families through an adaptive, community based recreation experience – saltwater fishing! Learn more about the program below, and consider donating to this worthy cause. 
About the Program:
“In partnership with the Armed Services YMCA San Diego and the Department of Defense, the San Diego Anglers Foundation is proud to offer free of charge saltwater fishing adventures to disabled military personnel and their families.” This program is “an adaptive, community based outdoor recreation experience, and gives [service members] extra therapeutic support during their recovery period.”
“Numerous studies have shown that traumatic events not only affect the psychological structures of the self, but also the attachment and meaning that link individuals and their families. This program seeks to restore those disconnects, allowing military members a chance to have social interactions and bond with family members, while enjoying the sport of fishing.”

Trip 6 -Jesse’s Bachelor Party Trip Charter (1.5 day) is off and running!

Trip 5 Let’s Talk Hookup (1.5-day) Jul 9-11 is off and running!
The passengers were all smiles this afternoon as the Let’s Talk Hookup 1.5 Day Searcher trip began with the boat departing the dock under beautiful weather conditions!
LTHU host Pete Gray was there to see the boat off with a bundle of swag and giveaways for LTHU rep Tommy P. to share with the eager anglers.
Trip 4 (3-day) Jul 6-9 Seeker Special is off and running!
Anglers and crew were in high spirits as Trip 4 departed Fisherman’s Landing today with accomplished Seeker pro staffer Sophie Huynh on board! This 3-day has all the ingredients for an amazing trip! Stay in the know with daily trip reports from the field!
Early Local Bluefin – Cracking the Code
It’s hard not to get caught up in the hype. For a few years now, signs of local BFT have influenced Searcher anglers to arrive for their early-season trips with heavy gear and dreams of bucket-list “cow” fishing dancing in their heads. As our Trip 2 departed last Friday, June 30, the tackle shop was abuzz with last-minute purchases of CA licences, flat falls and fluorocarbon, and excited talk of “yummees on the kite”.

Recent BFT fishing success (including 100-pounders on 3/4 day trips) has been attributed to Yummee Flyer lures on the troll or on the kite. This popular soft plastic does a great job of replicating the skimming presentation of a flying fish, natural prey of tuna. Fishing and catching the elusive bluefin is a constant back-and-forth between science and intuition, trying to “crack the code” using the technology afforded by modern fishing tools and gear alongside the knowledge of experienced anglers and captains.
