June 19th, 2017|Captain Mike's Blog|

We had a great time at the June meeting for the anglers in the Channel Islands Fishing Club! Captain Art talked about recommended tackle for our multi-day trips and offered up some casting and other angling tips. As always, we thank our sponsors Accurate Small Logo and Seeker Logo Small for their gear, which anglers can use on our trips AND see demonstrated at our fishing club seminars! Also to Owner small logo for their great products and giveaways for our raffles.

Here’s some snapshots of the meeting held at Social Tap in Ventura, a great setting for a summer fishing club meeting! Thank you Eric Huff and the entire club in beautiful Ventura, California,

Tutorial: Fluoro to Mono Connections

May 17th, 2017|Captain Mike's Blog|

An essential skill of fishing is tying a fishing knot. Knots may not get the glory, but they are certainly the unsung heroes of the fishing scene. These critical connections can determine your success while out on the water. Because, as we know, even all the high-tech tackle and secret tactics in the world won’t help you if your knot slips or weakens your line, causing it to break at the moment of truth.

In this video, Capt. Ryan shows you two great Fluoro to Mono connections that will help you while out on the water this season.

Road Trip Report: Day 3

May 12th, 2017|Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Road Trip Day 3 found us stopping by the Seeker Rods facility for a production tour of the USA-made rods and blanks. We met owner Rick Hult and his team as they were building rods in-house. We appreciate the quality and detail that goes into each rod built there.

Rick Hult shows Capt Art the precision process for building a Seeker rod.

Our anglers benefit from this high-quality work when they use Searcher Sportfishing loaner gear and “Hook and Hand” outfits, thanks to Accurate Reels and Seeker Rods!

Thank you, Rick and Team Seeker!

Turners small logo

The second day of our 2017 Gold Coast Road Trip was fantastic! We started the day with a visit to Eric’s Tackle in Ventura. Eric caught us up to speed with local conditions and fishing reports. We are returning to the area to do a seminar for Eric’s new fishing club: Channel Islands Fishing Club hyuns tackle in oxnardon Tuesday Jun 13, check out our Facebook page for more details. We also stopped by to see our friends at Hyun’s Tackle in Oxnard. The owners are busy with gear repairs and building new outfits for anglers.

20170510_191532In the evening we spent time with anglers gathered at Turners Outdoorsman in Oxnard. The store manager, Mike Armenta, offers seminars in a new and comfortable space at the store. Capt Art and crewman Ben suggested outfits for multi-day trips, and demonstrated knots and connections so everyone is prepared for their tuna trips this season! There were lots of questions for our team and we appreciated the time spent with our Oxnard friends. As usual, we offered up some raffle prizes (and so did Mike A.!), with the grand prize of a $250 gift certificate for a Searcher Sportfishing trip in 2017 going to Mike R.
