Trip 5 (1.5 day) July 11 Report

July 12th, 2016|Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

It was a great afternoon on the water!  We had steady action pretty much all day: stopping on kelp, catching yellowtail up to 20 lbs and some dorado.  We had a great afternoon on yellowfin tuna, too.

The weather looks like it is going to lay down the next couple of days – good news since we are headed back to San Diego with a boat of happy anglers tonight, with another trip departing on the afternoon of July 12.

Here is Patti Looney with her dorado caught on a kelp stop today.

This afternoon’s tip is: the ticket to getting a tuna today after we got trolling bites was slide fishing with an artificial lure.

Good angling and hope to see ya on the water soon!

Trip 5 (1.5 day) July 11 Mid-day Report!

July 11th, 2016|Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

It’s been a great morning on the water today! Although we haven’t seen a bunch of kelps this morning, the ones we are finding, we are catching fish on! We have been short-stopping on yellowfin tuna as well. We have noticed that pink trolling lures seem to be getting most of the tuna.

Here is a photo of San Diego local Dave Pitonyak with one of of the yellows we’ve been catching on the kelps.  He posed for a photo with Bootz before departure, looks like that brought him some extra luck!

Going for more fish – good angling and hope to see ya on the water!  One spot just opened up on our next trip leaving on July 12!

Will send another report later.

Trip 4 (2-day) July 7-9 Seeker Rods sponsored

July 9th, 2016|Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers: We had a pretty tough trip for catching fish. We stopped on lots of kelp paddies and watch fish swimming under them, but the fish aren’t biting what we have to offer. Water conditions are just right, and so is the weather–now we just need the fish to cooperate. Tex Gough of San Diego, CA captured the jackpot with a 25# yellowtail.

Seeker Rods rep Sophia Huynh brought loads of promo gear like hats and shirts, and two rods to give away. We are so grateful to sponsors like Seeker Rods who support San Diego sportfishing and provide quality gear for our anglers.

Thank you, Sophia and Seeker!

We love this great photo from the field this afternoon! 16-year old angler, Kendall Swanson, and a beauty of a yellowfin tuna!

Here’s Capt Aaron’s noontime report: “Howdy anglers, Today we’ve had beautiful weather. We are seeing lots of kelps and have stopped on for some. We’re getting small yellowfin tuna and yellowtail. Conditions are right–lots of kelp–but not too many fish on them.
Here’s a photo of Tom James with a nice yellowfin tuna just caught a few minutes ago on a Zuker Mexican Flag.
We have lots of daylight left and the weather forecast is looking good. We’re going to keep working at it so wish us luck.
More later, Team Searcher”trip3tomyftsm

Trip 2 (4 day) June 30-July 4 Izorline Open Charter

July 4th, 2016|Trip Reports|

Hello anglers,

We moved up the coast last night to try another yellowtail spot. We had some action on good-size yellowtail for a few hours, before we had to head home. Even the crew got involved. Chef Dan used one of our Hook and Hand outfits to hook a fish and hand it off to Chef Charley Erichsen. Charley has prepared many yellowtail dishes (including on Searcher, see below), but this was his first time catching one!
The weather is awesome so we are going to have a great ride home. Thanks to Norm Fujimoto and Steve Ichinokuchi from Izorline for all the goodies on this trip. Several people filled their reels with new line. It is always a pleasure to have Norm and his sons (this year JK joined him) on board and we look forward to having him back next year.

Our “Sportsman Award” for the trip goes to Ted Okon from Santa Clarita. Ted is great to fish with and he gets the job done too!
We ended the trip with a phenomenal dinner tonight. Not only do our chefs catch the fish but they know how to cook it as well. The yellowtail was grilled with a lime cilantro butter sauce, served with roasted squash and a red pepper risotto.

Trip 2 (4 day) June 30-July 4 Izorline Open Charter

July 3rd, 2016|Trip Reports|

Hello anglers, We had an excellent day fishing for yellowtail! Everyone had lots of opportunities to land a quality fish. Throughout the day the best method for getting a bite was using a live sardine with a J hook, and 30-40 pound test line. No flourocarbon leader necessary. There was plenty of fun to go around today, and the weather was awesome with calm seas and warm temperatures. HHyellowtail. trip2
Capt Aaron fished for a while today and was able to Hook and Hand a fish to Brandt Humphry of Irvine, CA. They are pictured with the Seeker rod and Accurate reel and a gorgeous yellowtail.

Hello anglers, We made the long run to the yellowtail zone last night and it paid off. We’ve had great fishing for good-size yellowtail this morning. The most successful method to get these fish to bite is a live sardine, and 40 pound line with a 3/0 J hook. Pictured is Capt. Art and Jim Pappas. He and his son Nikko came all the way from Largo, Florida to experience our West Coast saltwater fishing. Jim landed this yellowtail on one of our Accurate/Seeker “Hook and Hand” outfits. Capt Art hooked the fish initially, handed the outfit to Jim, and he got to land the fish. Nice job, Jim!
Thanks to Accurate Fishing Products and Seeker Rods for providing these outfits, and to Izorline for the line. It’s nice to have these state-of-the-art outfits for our crew to hook a fish, and then landed by a passenger, especially a first-timer!

We are hoping to stay busy the rest of the day like this! Team Searcher
