September 21st, 2022|Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good morning,

We saw a good sign of bluefin right after dark, then we lost track of them, and the weather came up.  We got a few bites and landed one nice one.  We put the anchor down and got some good sleep.

We see the bluefin again this morning though we aren’t catching it.  But we found a kelp with some nice dorado, and so we’re pretty happy about that.

Good morning,

We got on scene here just before 10pm and had a few opportunities throughout the night on bluefin tuna. It seemed like we were a little late but we still managed to score some nice grade bluefin, 30-120lbs, on lures.  We see very good sign this morning and we’re starting to get a few bites during the day now.

Good evening,

We have seen good sign of mixed yellowfin and bluefin throughout the day. We had one very good opportunity where these 30-50lb yellowfin were in the corner for awhile. We settled into a nice long drift and started plunking on mixed yellwfin/bluefin, mostly 30-50lbs.  Very fun fishing here!  We’ll see what happens tonight.

Good evening,

We slid down the beach last night and put ourselves in position to catch some yellowfin tuna in the morning.  We had an action-packed stop in the morning on school-sized yellowfin. Very fun fishing.  We scratched a few more throughout the day too.

We scored some good-grade dorado this afternoon from a couple different kelps.  Nice weather, good fishing.

Good afternoon,

We had excellent fishing on 10-18# dorado before lunch today.Very fun fishing and great quality. Everyone got in on the action.

We’re back on the hunt for some bluefin now. Hoping we can capture a few before we have to wrap the trip up this evening.

Good morning,

We ran out to the west last yesterday to try catch some nighttime bluefin.  We caught a handful of 60-90lbers but the weather was not really workable, so we bailed out and slid to the east. We’re looking for some dorados and we have much better weather here this morning.

Hello anglers,

We saw good signs of bluefin tuna during the day yesterday but they weren’t biting. We waited for nighttime and had some opportunities. We landed fish from 50-120 pounds. We plan to relocate to try for dorado as there has been some reports of good fishing.

One of the nice tuna we picked up yesterday

Hello anglers,

We had some action today with dorado. We stopped on two different areas and found the most successful method was a flylined live sardine on 30 pound line with a #2 J-Hook. We all had some fun.

Hello anglers,

We are back to fishing after the storm and had great weather travelling to the west by San Clemente Island. We started flat falling at sunset and we had some opportunities on bluefin. Most of the fish are 60 pounds and there was one stand-out at 200 pounds!

Hoping for some action during the day today and then we will flat fall again tonight.

Good afternoon,

We made a move last night and got into this local tuna grounds this morning, We didn’t see much until about 11am, but we’ve been drifting ever since.  Very good fly line fishing today on mixed yellowfin bluefin 25-45lbs.  We’re hoping we can stay drifting here. Gotta go!

Captain Mike and the boys

Great catch!

Good evening,

What a day!  We had two stops on this beautiful grade of yellowfin/bluefin mix.  On both stops we had 4-10 fish going and drifted for hours.  Excellent sport fishing.

Fly lined 30 and 40 lb test was the best way to get a bite.  Some guys were getting bites on the colt snipers and small flat falls as well.  Grease calm weather and biting fish, what more could you ask for?

Good morning,

We drove around most of the night and then around 2:30 a.m., we got on the right fish and they were biting a little. It’s a beautiful grade of bluefin, with yellowfin mixed in. The bluefin are 40-120# and the yellowfin are 30-50#.  We were able to scratch until the sun came up.

We’re going to spend the morning looking for a dorado kelp.

WTG, Tommy!

Good evening,

We went kelping this afternoon.  It was wide-open dorado fishing! One-stop shopping on a kelp here mid-day.  We went back to last night’s location and see good sign of yellowfin and bluefin here this afternoon.  We’ve caught a few and we’re gonna see what happens when the sun goes down.

Good morning,

We had excellent fishing on 25-50# bluefin last night.  We got on scene around 9pm and started seeing incredible sign right away.  We ended up catching what we needed in a couple hours, including a few yellowfin mixed in.  We’re sliding down the beach now looking for something else to catch.  Very fun lure fishing!

Father/son catching bluefin together!

Good evening,

We went looking down the beach today.  We saw some sign of 10-30lb yellowfin tuna and we scratched a few up.  It felt like we might have been on to something but never really saw any concentration of them.  We had a few dorado and yellowtail in the mix as well.  Beautiful weather.

August 31st, 2022|Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good morning,

We started off this morning looking for kelps.  We scratched up some mixed-grade dorado and smaller yellowfin until about lunch time.  We got in an area just after lunch where we started seeing good sign of 25-50lb mixed yellowfin and bluefin.  We started hooking fish in the first school we saw right away.  However, they were a little bigger than we thought, with some 70-80lbers mixed in. Once we got it figured out we ended up putting a few on the boat and lost about a dozen.  We’re going to see what the afternoon brings around here.

One of the boated beauties from the afternoon!

Good evening,

We scratched throughout the day, pretty tough getting a bite during the day in this area.  But right before the sun went down they did bite a little bit.  Then when the sun went down it was game on!  We had one stop and filled out our limit of bluefin in about a hour.

Happy angler getting in on the evening action!
