May 28 (3 day) Memorial Day Weekend

May 28th, 2022|Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good morning anglers,

Last night we had some phenomenal fishing on 20-30lb bluefin tuna on the flat falls.  They bit all night long, and the anglers who stayed up and wanted to catch ’em did a nice job.

We’re trying to find some larger models for today and tonight.

Brothers Josh and Keegan caught the first fish of the night

Good evening anglers,

We had a long day today. We didn’t see much until late afternoon.  But we started seeing some incredible sign of 100-200lb fish late in the day. We managed to capture one and it was a good one, right around 160lbs.  We are seeing this larger fish again after sunset.

Hoping for a big night tonight.

Good morning,

We had one opportunity last night on these bluefin on the flat falls. At around midnight they pulled a dissapearing act, so we relocated down the coast and are starting to see large schools of mixed grade (25-150lbs). They aren’t cooperating at the moment, maybe this afternoon.

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening,

We have been scratching away at these bluefin all afternoon. We’ve had stops for 1-5 fish on fly lined baits, sinker rigs, and colt snipers. Pretty incredible amount of fish around at the moment.  We’re not seeing it as the sun sets but we’re going to fish a little tonight and until we have to go home.

Good morning anglers,

The bluefin dissappeared on us overnight, so we’ve been on the hunt for them all day here this morning.  We’re just starting to see them here now at lunchtime.  We’ve managed to scrape up some quality yellowtail in the meantime.  Hoping for a big afternoon here.

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening,

We are seeing some very nice spots of 50lb bluefin and 25lb bluefin this afternoon.  They are not cooperating very well at the moment but we’ve managed to scrape some up here.

Hoping for a night bite this evening.

May 22-23 Overnight (2.5 day) Offshore fishing

May 23rd, 2022|Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening again anglers,

Here’s a good reason not to break down your flat fall rod on the way home.  We left enough time on the way home to stop on fish if we saw it.

We stopped on some scattered fish at about 30 min before we were going to call it a trip, and they charged the boat. It was a good opportunity for those who wanted to catch a big one tonight.  They were 90-120lbs and they were biting!

Good morning anglers,

The guys were tired from our day of pulling on fish all day yesterday. so we set up a drift for the night and got up at 4 and started driving around.  We saw very little sign of this bluefin today–we have a handful for our morning here.

We did score some nice yellows on a kelp just before lunch.  The fleet has spread out trying to find this bluefin right now.

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening anglers,

We had a very very long day of driving around trying to locate this bluefin.  We didn’t see a school until about 5pm but it was a good one.

We unloaded on it and it stuck.  They started slow then they started boiling around and biting.  We have a very nice evening plunker going at the moment on 18-30lb fish.

Good morning, anglers:

We’re seeing good sign of school-grade fish here this morning. We caught a couple on the flat falls last night when we got down to the zone.

We had one pretty good opportunity first thing this morning and we managed to catch a couple of handfulls on the flylined sardine. It’s light line, plunker style fishing.

We’re hoping for a afternoon bite too.

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening anglers,

We scratched throughout the day and had one good opportunity this aftrernoon. We had a 2-hour plunker on the school-grade bluefin. We have beautiful weather here this evening.  Gotta go we’ve got a couple hanging.

Hello anglers:

We saw scattered sign of bluefin tuna last night and throughout the morning. We’re starting to see much more volume now at lunchtime.

Opportunities to get a fish to bite are not easy to come by, but Jason managed to get a nice one on the sinker rig.

We’re currently pulling on a heavier model. We’ll check back later.

Jason boated our first fish of 2022!

Good evening anglers,

Good bluefin tuna watching with a very good sign of 80-150lb fish throughout the afternoon. They just were not in the biting mode though.  We did manage a few trophies however, and also had some heartbreaks.

Everything we’ve caught today has been on the sinker rig.

Just a few fish caught today, but they are trophies

Good morning anglers,

We got to the rocks around 7:15 this morning and slid right into our first stop.  We’ve had steady action all morning on the wahoo, and  they’re starting to add up!  Hoping this holds up all day here.

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening anglers,

We had a nice afternoon scratching at the wahoo here.  It did get progressively harder as the day went on to catch them and get bites, but we still managed to catch a few throughout the day. We’re rolling up now with beautiful weather. All in all, a great way to end the trip.

Thanks to everyone who came fishing with us this season, it has been a great year!  See you in the spring.

Good morning anglers,

We had a good shot at the yellowtail this morning in the dark, bite time was 4am until sun up on 10-15 lbers.  It was full speed! There were some tuna mixed in as well, ranging 15-30 lbs.  We made a move when the sun came up and got on a nice school of yellowfin, straight 35-45 lb fish, and they were in the corner.  We got our fix, finishing up, lunch, and headed west toward the rocks to hunt for a dorado/wahoo kelp.

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening anglers,

Pretty epic kelping this afternoon.  Endless 15-25lb dorado and some big wahoo.  The guys got their fix on the dorado then we had a few kelps with some 40-70lb wahoo on them right before the sun went down.  We’re on course for alijos at the moment be there in the morning to finish up what turned out to be a great trip to finish up the season!
