September 23 mid-day report

September 23rd, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We started on the coast fishing for yellowtail today, but things have been a bit slow so far. We are hopeful that the fish we see on the fish finders start to bite soon! Our long-time Searcher customer, Mas Kaneko, landed a nice yellowtail this morning and is pictured with Capt Kenny. sep 22-27 masWe are hopeful for this afternoon.

Hello all,
We started our day on the coast for some more yellowtail but only landed a few. We headed offshore to find a kelp paddie and some dorado to end the trip. The conditions were not the greatest as the wind came up due to the tropical weather in the area. We did find a kelp paddie and had some action, but the conditions made it difficult. Everyone had a chance at landing a dorado.
Headed home with a nice catch but had to work for every one of the fish we caught.
Thanks to Steve Carson for all the hard work before, during and after the trip. He makes it worthwhile for everyone on board with all the giveaways from various sponsors. The loaner tackle he and Penn provides is awesome. Looking forward to doing it again next year.

Hello anglers: We had a good day with action on good-size yellowtail. Everyone had a great time with lots of laughs and a little chaos when the fish were biting…25 pound yellowtail have a way of causing chaos! A dropper loop with a live bait was the method of choice today with a few fish on artificial lures and flyline live bait. Today’s photo is of our long time sponsor Steve Carson with Capt Aaron and a nice yellowtail.sep 16-22 carson
We are headed north tonight so we can have more fishing time tomorrow.

Hello all,

Well, today was different than yesterday. We had all our action in the morning today, while yesterday was all in the afternoon. Every day is different out here, that is what makes it interesting and challenging. All in all, we had a good day with yellowfin tuna and yellowtail. The grade of fish was much better today. It is always great when everyone has a chance at a good size fish. This afternoon’s photo is of Ron Shulz AKA Tator from Grapevine, TX and Capt. Joe with a nice yellowfin tuna.
Headed north to try for yellowtail tonight.

Hello all,
We had some action this afternoon! Good fishing for yellowfin tuna in the 10-30 pound class. Everyone had a chance to land a few. We had a few laughs as usual and we all had a great time.

Live bait was the method of choice today. The tip from Team Searcher is when you choose a hot bait, let go of the bait after you hook it. Don’t hang on to the bait as you are going to the rail to cast it out into the bite zone. You have a leash going to the bait with the hook attached to it, you can let go and your bait will be stronger and last longer.

This evenings photo is Capt. Aaron and long time Searcher customer Art Razo with a nice tuna.

Will send another update soon.

Hello all,
We didn’t have great fishing today but we have high hopes for tomorrow. Breezy conditions today, and we did see lots of yellowtail that wouldn’t bite. The highlight for today was dinner! Nothing like Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixin’s in September – a new meal recently added to our Searcher menu to change things up a little – we all really enjoyed it. Great job, Chef Charles and Dan!

Till tomorrow, Team Searcher

We moved further south last night to try for yellowfin tuna and yellowtail. We have a sample of each so far with high hopes for later today. The weather is good. This morning’s photo is of Capt. Ryan and Chris Mohs from Ventura with a nice yellowfin tuna.
More later,

Hello all,
We started our trip on the coast for yellowtail. We landed a few, and saw plenty that wouldn’t bite. Everyone had a chance to wet a line and get some of the rust off. We are heading further south to try a different spot later today.
The weather is fine with light winds and not much swell.  We will send another update tomorrow.
