July 11-13

July 12th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Howdy anglers: We’re headed home from our 1.5 day trip and we’re bringing fish home in calm weather! This morning for us was a little slow, but as the day went on we gathered fish from kelp to kelp. The yellowtail on the kelps were a average of 10 lbs. and the bluefin tuna were 25-30 lbs. anyways we had fun and caught some fish while doing it.

Good angling and hope to see ya on the water soon,
Capt Aaron and the Searcher crew

Tip of the day: We’re seeing a little more anchovy in the bait mix and these yellows were eating them! So maybe on your next trip, break out your old ‘chovy stick and have it on standby to have a little fun soaking a ‘chovy.

Last day

July 7th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello all-We had a chance at some quality fish again this morning. They didn’t bite as well as we had hoped but we did have a chance. We drifted for a few hours and landed 15 of those 40 – 60 pound fish. We didn’t find anything after that. We looked in the same area as yesterday and the fish weren’t there. There was some good fishing for the rest of the fleet in the afternoon on smaller bluefin tuna which is positive for the future. As always it is great to have Norm Fujimoto and the boys JK and Darrin from Izorline aboard. We had a really nice group of fisherman. Sal Catania from Las Vegas won the sportsmanship trophy this year and we are looking forward to weighing the jackpot in the morning. Team Searcher

Ernie’s day!

July 6th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We got lucky this morning and found a school right at daylight. We drifted for three hours and landed 16 nice bluefin tuna. Verteran long-ranger and Searcher regular, Ernie Seko, landed three fish–he had the hot hand this morning. Ernie is pictured with one of his fish.

Hello anglers: We started the day right with a nice school of bluefin tuna–40-60 pound fish.
Sal Catania from Las Vegas landed this fish on 50 pound line and floro-carbon with a circle hook.
Nice job Sal! We have calm weather as well.

Bluefin update

July 5th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We had an excellent morning with steady action on those 40 -60 pound bluefin tuna. We drifted until noon on the same spot of fish and everyone had a chance to land a quality fish. It was slow in the afternoon, not for lack of fish but lack of biting fish. We saw multiple spots of fish that wouldn’t cooperate. We are spending the night and trying again in the morning. The weather is great with calm seas and light winds.

4th of July

July 4th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello all, Happy 4th of July to you all! We had high hopes for today based on yesterday’s reports. Unfortunately we should have been here yesterday. Conditions are the same but there wasn’t the same sign of bluefin tuna today. We landed a few bluefin tuna and we had some action on small yellowtail. I’m sure it was just a down day.We landed our first dorado of the year. Ted Okon from Santa Clarita was the lucky angler. We have a report from a little further south of some bluefin tuna so we are headed there tonight. The weather is great with light winds and no swell. We are loking forward to tomorrow. Team Searcher

Barry and Capt Aaron

June 30th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers” We had pretty steady action today right up until we ran out of time. We have mixed sizes of yellowtail with the majority of them in the 6-10 pound range. The weather turned out to be great with very little wind and sunny skies. Besides the bluefin tuna we landed on the troll this morning, we landed one other 25 pound fish Barry Rauchle from San Ramon was the lucky angler.

Barry is pictured with Capt. Aaron who got the assist. We are headed home and looking forward to the next trip on Wedensday.
