Hello anglers, Today was the first day of our annual Braid Products trip. We fished an area about 100 miles from San Diego. We were extremely lucky and found a school of bluefin tuna. We landed 58 fish and most of them are in the 35-40 pound range with a few smaller and a few bigger. We might have one fish that will tip the scales at 60 pounds. Everyone has at least one bluefin and they also had several opportunities for more. There were a few 20-25 pound yellowfin tuna landed as well. We are headed for Guadalupe Island for tomorrow to give everyone a chance at a quality yellowfin tuna. Hopefully we can get lucky and get everyone at least one of those 50-70 pond yellowfin. More tomorrow, Capt Art
This 3-day trip had 28 anglers and they caught 264 yellowfin tuna, 34 dorado and 55 yellowtail. The jackpot winners are:
Hello anglers, Today we departed on our annual Braid Products trip. We were headed straight to Guadalupe Island but we received some great news. Those big albacore showed up again and there are some good-size bluefin and yellowfin tuna in the same area. We put the brakes on and we are started in the new area. It is only 80 miles from San Diego so this is great news for our upcoming trips. It is at a perfect distance for the new 1.5 day trip next weekend. More tomorrow, Capt Art
Hello anglers, Today we concentrated on fishing kelp paddies. We had some success, and had plenty of action with small dorado, tuna, and yellowtail. we released a lot of fish today and we still managed to keep around 100 mixed fish: yellowfin tuna, yellowtail, and dorado. Everyone had a lot of fun and plenty of action. The weather was great with calm seas and very little wind. Another successful Let’s Talk Hook-Up Shimano seminar! I am looking forward to doing it again next year as it is great to have people on board that haven’t done a long range trip before and get the exposure to this type of trip. Capt Art
Hello anglers, Today (day 1 of our 3-day Shimano/Let’s Talk Hook-up trip) was an excellent day of fishing for small yellowfin tuna. We stayed busy all day with several stops–most of them being troll fish with a few fish on kelp paddies. The majority of the fish are in the 12 pound range with a few smaller and a few bigger. The stand-out fish of the day was landed by Joe Otahal from La Mesa. Joe landed a 47 pound yellowfin tuna on 25 pound test and a live sardine! There were fish caught on live bait, chrome jigs and Fish Trap lures. Everyone had a great time! On top of that, the weather is calm so we are looking forward to tomorrow. Capt Art
This 5-day trip had 21 anglers and they caught 129 yellowfin tuna, 38 bluefin, 17 dorado and 41 yellowtail. The jackpot winners are:

Trip totals: 129 yellowfin tuna, 38 bluefin tuna, 41 yellowtail, and 17 dorado. The jackpot fish are noteworthy: 100.8# yellowfin tuna (Brian Lemburg, San Diego) 91.6# yellowfin tuna (Ron Phillips, Las Vegas) 63# yellowfin tuna (Kevin Yoshimoto, Thousand Oaks) Congrats!
Art Taylor’s Searcher took out 21 passengers on the four-day Izorline/Bass Pro Shops charter with chartermasters Wendy Tochihara of Izorline and Matt Towner of Bass Pro Shops supervising the expedition.
Brian Lemberg, a sales rep from San Diego, won first place for his 100.2-pound yellowfin. He said it bit on a sardine and a 3/0 Eagle Claw hook. He fished with 40-poudn Blackwater fluorocarbon leader and 40-pound Izorline on a Penn 4/0 reel and a six-foot Calstar rod. He said his drags seized up during the 30-minute fight but the crew spliced him into another rig.
Ron Phillips of Las Vegas took second place for a 91-pounder, and Kevin Yoshimoto of Thousand Oaks won third place for a 63-pound Guadalupe Island yellowfin tuna.
Hello anglers, We elected to stay at Guadalupe Island today and fish for a few hours in the morning. The weather was forecast for 20 knots and the thought of working in that for a few smaller yellowfin and bluefin wasn’t too appealing. We landed 16 more of those quality yellowfin tuna and everyone has at least one of those beautiful fish. We are headed home and we are in for 4 days, so look for a report next weekend. Or better yet, sign up for an August fishing trip–it’s pretty exciting out here! Capt Art
