Good afternoon,

We had one fish in the dark last night and didn’t see a whole lot of sign after that, so we opted to shut it down and get some rest. We see a little bit of sign this morning.  We had one good shot at these 30-80# bluefin just before lunch and we’re hoping we get another before we call it a trip.

Good morning,

We arrived on scene late last night, but we still managed a few beauties: 50-180# bluefin tuna.  They weren’t biting well, but we worked at it and had a few opportunities.

We’re getting a little daytime action now on 50# fish in a long, plunker-style drift. We also have beautiful weather–what more could you ask for?  Fly line on 40lb test is what were catching them on.  We’re loosing quite a few, and it’s possible there’s some bigger fish around that are coming through and messing us up.

Congrats, Jim!

Good evening,

We’ve had some good action today plunking away on 30-90# bluefin. We definitely have been hooking some bigger fish this afternoon, but not really landing a whole lot of them. We’re getting some good opportunities and have managed to scrape up a good day here.

Very fun fishing and the weather is calm. We’re going to see what tonight brings.

Good morning,

Full speed and “all you want” action on 10-15# yellowfin this morning.  We stopped on a school while everyone was eating breakfast and it was aquarium-style fishing.  They were biting 100# in the corner.  Anglers tagged whatever they wanted to keep and we moved on.

Working up we ran into a few kelps and got some good action on 10-18# dorado as well.  We tagged what we wanted to keep. Very fun fishing this morning so far and we’ve fished 5 out of 5 days on this trip.

We’re headed west to try catch a few trophies for the last couple days (and nights) to finish the trip off.

Good afternoon,

We camped out last night and had a repeat on the yellowtail this morning.  Wide open action 12-#18lb fish.  Excellent yo yo/surface iron fishing, as well as the fly lined baits.  We got our fix on the yellowtail and we’re rolling up to fish tuna and see if we can find a kelp in our travels.

Good evening,

We got down to where the yellowtail fishing had been excellent only to find that the water had rolled over.  There was very little sign of it this morning.  We scratched a few one at a time.  We sat it out until about lunchtime, hoping it would change it but it never did. So we picked the anchor up and started looking further down the beach. We bumped into an eager school of yellowtail this afternoon and it was full speed any way you wanted them! Good action here for a couple of hours.

Good evening,

With reports of slow fishing from down below, we put the brakes on last night.  There was sign of 40-60#yellowfin just 100 miles from home, so we decided to spend the day looking for it.  We never saw it however ,we did see very good sign of school-grade yellowfin and good-grade dorado.  We got a little action in to break the day up.  We didn’t want to tag too much this early in the trip, but it was a fun afternoon.

We’re rolling down the beach to do some yellowtail fishing tomorrow.

Sep 30 (Sep 29-Oct 1) Extended 1.5 day

Hello anglers,

We had some action on bluefin tuna last night. There was some good opportunities with flat fall lures and knife lures as well. Hoping for  a few more during the day in the same area.

Frequent customer, Darel, and a nice bluefin tuna

Hello anglers,

We had some great opportunities for quality yellowfin tuna this afternoon on 30-50# fish caught on flyline sardines. Great weather to go along with great fishing.

Hello anglers,

We started in the yellowfin tuna and dorado area south of San Diego this morning. It didn’t take long to find a kelp paddie that had a nice school of dorado. It was easy to get a bite with a live sardine on 25# line. Now we’re looking for some tuna.

Father and son, Ted and Kelley, with their dorado

Hello anglers,

We had a few more dorado this afternoon and a chance at some good-size yellowfin tuna. The tuna were 25-40# and we landed them on 25# line and a live sardine.

Hello anglers:

We’ve had great fishing again this morning with the same conditions, and plenty of yellowtail for everyone. Flyline live sardines were the best method today.  Lots of big bonito as well (released). So there was constant action all morning.

We are travelling north now and hoping for some action on yellowfin tuna tomorrow.

Happy anglers with their yellowtail!
