Trip #19 Penn University (Sept 11- 18) 7 day, The Ridge

Good afternoon anglers:

This morning we had good yellowtail fishing for 18-25lb fish. Our most successful method was using 40-50lb line and a fly-lined bait. In addition, surface irons (7x Salas, Tady 45, both green and white, and blue and white) were useful.

Today’s fishing wraps up our 7 day Penn Fishing University trip. We want to give a big thanks to Steve Carson and Penn Reels for all the great giveaways.

Good evening anglers:

Rick V. with an afternoon wahoo

This afternoon we set out to catch some wahoo and we did just that! All the fish were caught on the troll but we had some very happy anglers at the end of the day! We will be heading up tonight to try our hand at yellowtail. Wish us luck!

Trip #19 Penn University (Sept 11- 18) 7 day, The Ridge

Afternoon report:

So far today we have had some very good yellowfin tuna fishing with fish averaging15-40 lbs. The best way to get a bite has been on sardines, fly-lined or small jigs. Here’s Kurt P. with a yellowfin.

Good evening anglers:

Today ended up being a fantastic day on the water with biting fish and good weather! Yellowfin, dorado, and yellowtail were on the menu. Ourbest action was early in the day and the Flat Falls, Colt Snipers, and 6x juniors were the successful lures, or fly-ined sardines with 40 lb and a 3/0 hook.

We will spend the night here and try are luck tomorrow. Stefan M got this quality yellowfin today!

Trip #19 Penn University (Sept 11- 18) 7 day

Good evening anglers:

Today we had some scratch fishing on wahoo, yellowfin, and yellowtail. The most effective methods for wahoo were trolling Marauders. For yellowtail and tuna it was a flyline sardine, with a Salas 6x jr or raider jig. Our weather was a little choppy today with 16-20 knots of breeze. We are gonna stay where we are and give it another try tomorrow,
Wish us luck!

Trip #18 (3-day trip) Sep 7-10, Private Charter, day 3

Hello anglers,

We finished our 3-day trip with 13 anglers with awesome fishing for bluefin tuna. I think we landed the biggest bluefin tuna ever on Searcher! Tim S had an assist from Capt Mike and landed a 235 pound bluefin tuna tonight. There were several chances at landing large bluefin for the entire group. Ed K from Nebraska landed a 196 pound and a 110 pound fish. There were other fish in the 50 -90 pound range too!. This was a great finish to our trip.

Trip #18 (3-day trip) Sep 7-10, Private Charter, day 2

Hello all,

We moved to a zone with yellowtail and small bluefin tuna last night, and we have had some action this morning. Everyone has had a chance at landing a fish today. We plan to stay at this location until after lunch and then return to the big bluefin zone for a few hours before heading home. Here’s a photo of father and son Bob and Cooper with a yellowtail and a bluefin tuna. Nice when families can fish together!

Hoping for a few more fish landed before leaving after lunch.

Trip #18 (3-day trip) Sep 7-10, Private Charter, day 1

Hello anglers,

We have 13 anglers aboard from all over the country here to participate in a company fishing outing. We headed west to San Clemente Island so the group could have a chance at a bluefin tuna. They have been watching the reports and wanted to try. We arrived at 9 pm and got started right away with a couple of 40-50 pound fish. We fished until 1:30 am and we landed 10 bluefin up to 210 pounds . Mark W. landed the 210 pound fish with an assist from the crew. Robert B. landed a 188 pound tuna with an assist from the crew as well.

Here is Capt Art and Mark with his fish of a life time.

More later,
