Aug 12 (Aug 11-14) Captain Potatohead Memorial and Fun-raiser

August 13th, 2023|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening:
Epic day on the water today. It felt like we were at Guadalupe Island picking on 100# fish for most of the the day on the anchor.  We would get waves of 30# and waves of 60# fish, but we kept 3-5 going all day. Most of what we caught were 70-120# fish.
Excellent sign and excellent fishing, all fly-line fishing.  We’re on the hunt for something else to mix it up here.

Good morning,

We had a little shot from 1am to 3am this morning on 100# bluefin tuna.  It took us awhile to find a school, but we did find a few biting schools and got a few opportunities  At about 4am we made a move to look for some smaller daytime biting fish.
We didn’t find them but we got on a nice school of mixed-grade fish 30-130# mostly 70-100# fish.  We’ve been getting steady action all morning with 3-5 fish going.  Very fun flyline fishing. Best methods are 50# test and  a small hook.

Good evening,

We’re wrapping up our 2-day trip we had excellent fishing on mixed grade bluefin in the 25-100# range.  We got on scene last night around 9pm and scratched away on 50-100# fish.  Then when the sun came up we started hooking them on our day time tackle.
We managed a few but spent most of the morning trying to locate some more managable fish. We got on a biting school of 25-40# fish in the early afternoon and drifted until it was time to go home. Beautiful weather and good fishing.

Aug 7 (Aug 5-9) 4-day Izorline Open with Norm and Howard

August 8th, 2023|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good Afternoon,
Yesterday we did a little island fishing and had a few nice yellows and some action on the calicos.  It was a nice mellow day after a long couple nights.  We opted to slide down the beach to mix it up and we’re scratching a few dorado on kelps now.  The beautiful weather continues.

Good morning,
Pretty awesome 24 hours we’ve had on these bluefin today! It’s been an xcellent sign and response from these 60-120lb fish.  There was  a little bit of daytime action yesterday followed by good biting nighttime fishing.  These 100# fish were biting and we were on them until we had enough.
Anglers caught what they wanted and we bailed around 0230 in the morning. Excellent signal and excellent fishing.  We’re on the hunt for something else today.

Good evening,
We spent most of the day plunking away on mixed-grade fish that were 30-100#.  It was hard to get a bite at times. We did have one very good opportunity though.
Seeing very good sign and we’re starting to catch them again now with the sun down.

Good morning,
We arrived on scene just before midnight and struggled to find anything to stop on for awhile. But in the late hours of the morning, we got our shot.  We had some good opportunites on 100# bluefin from 3 am to 5 am.  When the sun came up we had a quick shot on school-grade fish.
We’re currently in a plunker on mixed-grade (30-100lbs). Calm weather, good fishing.
