Tackle Tip Thursday Vol. 234 (How to Use Dart Lures)

June 13th, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Tackle Tip Thursday|

Happy Tackle Tip Thursday!

Steve Carson, pro-staffer with Penn Fishing, demonstrates a very popular technique used when fishing bluefin tuna during the day. Using the dart lures and the casting methods Steve shares here, an angler can target bluefin that are feeding on smaller bait fish. Dart-type lures come in many shapes and weights, so watch this video, book your trip here, and visit Fishermans Landing Tackle Shop to stock up before you leave the dock!

Thank you to Steve for his time and experience in all things having to do with saltwater angling and Penn Fishing Tackle!

Trip 10, Pelagic Predators Charter, June 11-14

June 12th, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening,

Trip 10 with Pelagic Predators Charter is off to a great start. Last night we experienced calm, flat weather and we were picking them all night long. Our anglers landed 30 bluefin tuna, ranging from 30 to 150 pounds.  This morning we searched for yellowtail but didn’t catch any.  Instead, we shifted to coding and had a successful day catching vermilion rock cod. Now, we’re waiting for it to get dark and looking to resume our tuna fishing.

Trip 9, June 7-10, 2024

Good afternoon,

Slow fishing for our first night. We saw some very good signs, but the fish didn’t bite all too well. However, with favorable effect we managed a handful of fish weighing 20-60 pounds. This morning, we had action, hooking and landing a handful of fish while fly lining 40 pounds. As this morning progressed, the fish had a change in attitude. We pointed west to the zone, where some guy’s experienced good fishing on the larger grade fish that we saw last night. Now we’re looking for action once the sun sets down.

Trip 8 – 2.5 Limited Load June 6, 2024

June 6th, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good afternoon,

We had some good opportunities with big fish throughout the night. Although we didn’t see as many fish as the previous night, there were still plenty to stop on, and we got our shots. We’ve just started seeing them again this afternoon, and we’re hoping for another chance before heading home tonight.

Good Afternoon,

Last night we spotted several 100+ lb. fish. Made it on scene around 2 a.m., after stopping the boat three times over some very large schools and had a few good opportunities. We’re seeing some activity this morning. We’ll see what the day brings.

Trip #7 May 31 – June 4, 2024

June 2nd, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening,

Today we went down to the beach and explored a new area. This morning, we saw a school of 25lb fish and had a brief opportunity with the sardines. Despite scouring the area, we didn’t see any other schools. We spent the day working our way up and found some nice schools on kelps, but they weren’t biting very well. This evening, we headed west and spotted some good schools of big fish, managing to get a few shots. Hopefully, we can keep scratching away tonight. The conditions are tough, though—it’s quite choppy.
