Trip 13 – 3 Day Limited Load

June 23rd, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good morning,

We had nonstop action throughout the night, scratching away on 20-60 pounders. There was a lot of stopping and going with plenty of bites. Tons of fun! When the sun rose, we went searching for bigger fish. We spotted some, but not enough to stay in that area, though it felt like more were nearby. With good weather on the horizon, we’re hopeful to get back on the meat.

Trip 12 – James Thomas Invitational – Day 2

June 20th, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening,

Last night we had some great opportunities on the 40-to-60-pound fish. One large school and a couple of medium ones plugged us up with just about all we can keep. Left the tuna zone in search for yellowtail and bottom critters along the Baja coastline. Although the yellowtail has eluded us thus far, we had some steady fishing on reds, lingcod, and other creatures of the bottom sort. We’ve now switched gears back into yellowtail fishing to see if we can add a cherry on top to an already outstanding trip.

Hi Anglers,

Good action last night on 20-60 pounders. Lots of stopping and going with some pretty good opportunities. Today we have flat calm weather. We’re going to make a tour while we have a good weather window and see what else is around.

Trip 11, Accurate Fishing Sponsored, June 16, 2024

June 16th, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening,

Last night was as good as it gets on 20-60lb fish. Stopped the boat a few times before midnight and scratched a few of them around 0100. Then we stopped on a good school that stuck with us and plunked 1-5 at a time until the sun came up. At sunrise everyone went to bed as we slid east to look for the kelps. There we saw a few with yellowtail on them but no bites. This evening we did a little codding on the beach and now we’re heading back home.

Good afternoon,

On Friday, June 14, 2024, Searcher cruised out on trip 11, sponsored by Accurate Fishing with Matthew Elash. We drove until 1 AM when we caught our first fish of the trip.  The rest of the early morning we continued to pick away, pulling in around 20 fish ranging from 20 to 50 pounds. This morning, we caught a 40 pounder and a few yellowtails on the kelps. Hoping for another opportunity tonight before the weather kicks up.

June 13th, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Tackle Tip Thursday|

Happy Tackle Tip Thursday!

Steve Carson, pro-staffer with Penn Fishing, demonstrates a very popular technique used when fishing bluefin tuna during the day. Using the dart lures and the casting methods Steve shares here, an angler can target bluefin that are feeding on smaller bait fish. Dart-type lures come in many shapes and weights, so watch this video, book your trip here, and visit Fishermans Landing Tackle Shop to stock up before you leave the dock!

Thank you to Steve for his time and experience in all things having to do with saltwater angling and Penn Fishing Tackle!

Trip 10, Pelagic Predators Charter, June 11-14

June 12th, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening,

Trip 10 with Pelagic Predators Charter is off to a great start. Last night we experienced calm, flat weather and we were picking them all night long. Our anglers landed 30 bluefin tuna, ranging from 30 to 150 pounds.  This morning we searched for yellowtail but didn’t catch any.  Instead, we shifted to coding and had a successful day catching vermilion rock cod. Now, we’re waiting for it to get dark and looking to resume our tuna fishing.

Trip 9, June 7-10, 2024

June 8th, 2024|Categories: Captain Mike's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good afternoon,

Slow fishing for our first night. We saw some very good signs, but the fish didn’t bite all too well. However, with favorable effect we managed a handful of fish weighing 20-60 pounds. This morning, we had action, hooking and landing a handful of fish while fly lining 40 pounds. As this morning progressed, the fish had a change in attitude. We pointed west to the zone, where some guy’s experienced good fishing on the larger grade fish that we saw last night. Now we’re looking for action once the sun sets down.
