Trip #8 (6-day trip) Jul 30-Aug 5, day 5

August 4th, 2018|Captain Mike's Blog|

Good evening anglers:

We’ve had an absolutely beautiful day–both weather and fishing! We had a good bite on 30 to 50lb yellowfin tuna and one stand-out yellowtail. Here’s Captain Aaron and Frederick Handley with a 48lb yellowtail. Congrats!

Tackle tip: Use 40 or 50lb Izorline test with a 1/0 or 2/0 Owner hook. Fluorocarbon is a must!

Our day for tuna measuring!

July 28th, 2018|Captain Mike's Blog|

On July 27, Searcher anglers returned to the dock with a good catch of yellowfin tuna. What they didn’t realize is that some of their tuna were measured and sent in to the data collection project for the US and state fisheries experts, as organized by SAC (Sportfishing Association of CA).

Trip #6 sponsored by Turners Outdoorsman and Izorline is off and running!

July 21st, 2018|Captain Mike's Blog|

We caught up with Lori Sachau, saltwater tackle manager at Turners Outdoorsman in San Marcos for a few tackle tips for her upcoming 6-day trip aboard Searcher:

“Must haves for upcoming trips: glow flat falls for early morning jigging–the tuna are big and so are the yellowtail. Make sure you have an 80 lb dropper loop set-up. You will need 50 and 60 lb fluorocarbon for live bait on the bigger tuna. Your 30-40 lb setups will work for for the rest.
See you on the water!”

Thank you, Lori and have fun out there!

p.s. Mark your calendars for Captain Art’s next seminar at Turners in Kearny Mesa (San Diego) on August 14 at 5:30 p.m.
