Trip 25 Sep 13-19 Penn Reels Open Sep 17 PM Report

September 17th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Hello all,

Windy conditions again today. We stopped just after lunch to try for yellowtail, with the wind the water temperature had dropped significantly so the yellowtail weren’t around. We traveled to the next spot up the coast and there was a sign of good size yellowtail there. We had a few fish on various methods: dropper loop, yo-yo lure, surface lure and a live sardine with a 2 ounce sliding sinker.  Here’s Mike and Randy with a nice size yellowtail.

Headed home this evening, jackpot report on Tuesday. It’s been another great Penn Trip this year!

Hello all,
Good news from the Ridge and the Rocks: more wahoo are filtering in all the time, just in time for fall fishing. Plenty of yellowfin tuna continue to bite on the Ridge. Also good size yellowtail on the Ridge as well.
There are still a few spots available on our fall trips! If you haven’t reserved your spot in a fall trip, don’t wait much longer.
Capt Art was recently at The Ridge, during our annual trip with Steve Carson and Penn Reels. Anglers got a nice taste of yellowfin tuna fishing with wahoo sprinkled in! Review wahoo fishing techniques and prep your gear here WAHOO before you book a 6- or 7-day trip — don’t miss out!

September 16th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Hello all,

We had some nice fishing for yellowfin tuna this afternoon with several fish in the 30-40 pound class. Live sardine with 30-40 pound line was the primary method. A few dorado mixed in and 5 more wahoo for a great afternoon of fishing. We have great traveling weather as we head north to try the coast for some yellowtail tomorrow for a few hours before heading home.

This afternoon’s photo is of Dean and Richie from Malibu with their wahoos caught on the troll.

Trip 25 Sep 13-19 Penn Reels Open Sep 16 AM Report

September 16th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Hello all,

We have had some action on better size yellowfin tuna up to 40 pounds this morning! We also had a chance to troll around and try for wahoo. We have had a few opportunities and we have also landed a few. Here is John Plowman from Texas with a wahoo landed on the troll with a new prototype Penn International VI series brought by Steve Carson from Penn . There were a few more wahoo landed on that same outfit so it was field tested and it performed very well!

Hoping for some more action this afternoon.

Trip 25 Sep 13-19 Penn Reels Open Sep 14 PM Report

September 14th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Hello all,

We had a nice day on the ocean today traveling south. After breakfast, we conducted a seminar discussing all the different options we’ll have starting tomorrow. We went over terminal tackle, tactics and, of course: how to minimize tangles!! Then the fun began with everyone (with the help of the crew) rigging outfits to match what we learned in the galley.

We ended the day with a nice sunset and an awesome dinner prepared by Chefs Charley and Dan! It was roasted pork loin stuffed with asian pears and fennel served with an heirloom tomato and  bacon butter sauce, with white beans and roasted carrots and broccoli on the side. It was delicious.

We’ll have news from The Ridge tomorrow,

Trip 25 Sep 13-19 Penn Reels Open (6-day) Sep 13 PM Report

September 13th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Hello all,

We departed on our annual trip with Steve Carson and the Penn reels University. Steve brings all the latest Penn rods and reels aboard  for our clients to try out! This year he has assembled a rod and reel station on the upper deck and all you have to do is pick an outfit and give it a try and then return it to the station. There are some prototype reels (the International VI Series) that haven’t gone out to the public market yet to try as well. Also with a bunch of give aways to raffle off and prizes to award throughout the course of the trip.

We are headed south to the Ridge to try for tuna and yellowtail and hopefully a few wahoo. We will arrive on Friday morning.Tomorrow will be a travel day with a seminar after breakfast and then a whole day to rig for the first stop.
