Howdy anglers: Out day started out a bit on the odd side. We had wind, rain and choppy conditions and slow fishing to start, and then we had a sun-filled afternoon, catching nice-grade yellowfin tuna and yellowtail! Here is a sample of the tuna caught by Kimberly Day. oct 10-16 kimday

The ticket was flyline for the tuna, and dropper loop for  yellows on the bottom. We’re gonna try it again tomorrow. The weather looks nice as well, so wish us luck.

Hello anglers!

Capt Aaron and his 14 passengers left the dock on Saturday and were ready to fish by Sunday morning. Unfortunately the yellowtail weren’t ready to bite and they had a pretty slow day of catching. The weather is great and they have high hopes for fishing a few new spots today. Stay tuned!

Hello anglers: Yesterday we had some tough conditions with strong winds and large swell. Before the wind we were able to have a little action on good size yellow tail. And then the wind came up, so we had to stop fishing.
Today we have no wind which is a pleasant surprise! We are catching some yellowtail on the coast. We plan to can continue until lunch time and then we will put this trip in the books for another year.

Hello anglers: On “Team Searcher Appreciation Day” we had some fun with a kelp paddie and some good-size dorado. It was chaotic for awhile and everyone had a great time landing dorado. It was a goal of ours to get some dorado today so we fulfilled that goal in some windy conditions. That made it a little interesting! We also had a wahoo come aboard, caught by Steve Heffner from Idaho. That was the 100th wahoo landed this trip!sep 27-oct 4 heffner

September 30-day’s end

October 1st, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We had a great day today with good action almost all day. Everyone had a chance at landing a wahoo. A live bait and a wire leader with 40 pound mono was the best combo. John Curtis is pictured with a wahoo he landed on his new rod that his grandchildren bought for him. The rod was built by Jeff Nagel–both John and Jeff are long-time Searcher customers. John comes all the way from England each fall to go on this 7 day trip with all his Searcher buddies!
It’s great fishing and lots of fun the past two days. We are headed north to try the coast for yellowtail.

September 30 mid-day report

September 30th, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We are having a good morning so far! There’s been lots of chances at boating a wahoo, with a few dorado at daylight, and an occasional yellowtail on the bottom. The weather is choppy today with some unexpected wind that we hope diminishes later today.

Hello anglers: We arrived at Alijos Rocks just before lunch today and started to catch wahoo shortly there after. Everyone had lots of chances to land a wahoo  and just about everyone did land a wahoo! As usual there were plenty of bite-offs and losses which is normal for wahoo fishing. If you land 30% of what is hooked, you’re are doing well. I think we did better than that today. We are spending the night and trying again tomorrow.

It is nice to be back here–it has been awhile for us on Team Searcher.
