Trip #11 July 27-Aug 1, day 2

July 30th, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Excellent yellowtail fishing this morning! Most of the fish have been caught on live sardine and 40 pound line, with a few fish on artificial lures–primarily blue and white–and 40 – 60 pound test. Everyone is having a great time, the sun is out the seas are calm, it doesn’t get much better than this. Todas photo is Capt Kenny with Wendy Tochihara from Izorline and a nice yellowtail.DSC00011

Trip #10 July 27-Aug 1, day’s end

July 28th, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We had an excellent morning with a good school of yellowfin tuna, with a few yellowtail and dorado mixed in. We released a lot of small tuna and kept the bigger ones. There was lots of action and fun for about 3 hours.
We headed southeast looking for another kelp paqddie and found several but they only had a few fish associated with them. We landed a few more yellowfin tuna and yellowtail.
Bob Blum, a Let’s Talk Hook-up Staff member and long-time Searcher customer, landed this nice yellowtail. He used a Shimano Terez rod and a Shimano Tranx 500HG reel with a mega bait lure. It was a good combo for tuna and yellows fishing offshore. Capt Tom Lambert gets the assist.jul 27-aug 1 blum

Got a question? Ask a captain!

July 28th, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

ASK A CAPTAIN logoNEWS FROM JEN, THE NEW FISH:

As Team Searcher’s newest member and a newbie to the sportfishing world, I ask our captains a boatload of questions! They get a kick out of my queries like “What’s a boot stripe?” “Is it ‘dropper loop’ or ‘drop and loop?’ “What is ‘wide open’ and is that a good thing?” and even “Why is an angler called an angler?” Now they have graciously offered to open up the Q&A forum to all of our Searcher friends. Got a question about tackle or gear, Searcher history, long-range sportfishing, or maybe fishing spots in Baja or California? Submit your question via email to jen@searchersportfishing.com with “Ask A Captain!” in the subject line. I’ll hunt down the answers from one of our captains and post it for all to see.

Just to make it more fun, each angler with a question is entered into a monthly drawing for a FREE tackle swag bag, courtesy of our generous sponsors. Selected questions and answers will be posted every week on www.searchersportfishing.com, Facebook, Twitter, and anywhere else anglers gather.

Trip #11 July 27-August 1, day 1

July 28th, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Our first day started with a bang with a nice-size kelp paddie. We had great fishing for small yellowfin tuna most of which we released The longer we drifted, the better the size of the fish. We started to land 12-22 pound yellowfin tuna and good-size dorado and yellowtail. Richard Benson from Chicago is pictured with a nice dorado.jul 27-aug 1 benson

Trip #10 July 23-27 day 2, day’s end

July 26th, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Here is our final report for today. We stayed busy all day with plenty of opportunity to catch a yellowfin tuna or a yellowtail with lots of kelps to stop on. We had troll fish and fish seen on the fish finders. I think everyone had a great time today and they all have plenty of fish. We are headed to the coast to try for some more action. Trip #10 July 23-27 day 2

July 25th, 2015|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Here’s our midday report: steady action on yellowfin tuna. It’s a little slower than yesterday but there is still plenty of fish around. After yesterday we are being selective about what we are keeping and tagging. The smaller fish are being released. It is nice to see anglers watching out for the resource and the future, and keeping only what they can use.
Today’s photo is of Chad Coons with Capt Ryan and a nice yellowfin. Stay tuned for a video of Chad landing a nice yellowtail earlier today.trip #10 chadcoons
