End of Day 1

September 1st, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We had an excellent day of fishing today onm ixed sizes of bluefin and yellowfin tuna, with the biggest being about 45 pounds. Everyone had a great time with plenty of opportunity to catch fish. George Alfaro from Torrance is pictured with his nice size bluefin tuna. The weather is great with calm seas and very little wind. Looking forward to tomorrow. We will be able to fish until 2 or 3 pm and then head for home.

Hello anglers: We’ve got good action on 15-20 pound bluefin tuna with a few larger ones as well. Gary Wheeler from Arizona is pictured with his 40 pound bluefin tuna. The weather is calm and conditions look favorable for good fishing the rest of the day. There has been a big change in the last few days with yellowfin tuna showing up and the water temperature warming up to 72 degrees.

Birthday fishing trip!

August 30th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We had good action on small yellowtail this afternoon. Everyone had a good time catching yellowtail. We did add to our tuna count with two nice-size yellowfin tuna that were on a kelp paddie. Logan Morgan from Mira Loma, CA is pictured with his yellowfin tuna. Logan also landed a good-size bluefin tuna this morning and then he finished off his day with a limit of yellowtail. And today is Logan’s birthday!
Not a bad day with great weather and good fishing. He has a chance at the jackpot as well.

Kim Burkhart Open

Hello anglers: We are 85 miles south of San Diego in the area where there are some nice-size bluefin tuna being caught. We have stopped a few times this morning and tried for these fish. They aren’t biting all that well, but we have managed to land six of these quality fish. Pictured is Dale Prince from Yorba Linda with a 70-pound bluefin from one of our stops this morning. Hoping for more. Team Searcher

Day’s end

August 28th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We had high hopes after lunch with a sign of the bigger fish and other boats catching fish as well. Unfortunately we didn’t find another school that wanted to bite. We tried several kelp paddies, spots of fish on the sonar and fathometer. They just wouldn’t bite. We have 45 mixed fish aboard with the highlight being the 40-70 pound bluefin and a couple of dorado.
Capt Carl is pictured with one of the lucky anglers to catch a dorado today.
Thanks to Benny Florentino from Shimano for the expertise and all the goodies he passed out. Thanks to Pete Gray and Lets Talk Hook-Up for sponsoring the trips this year. Look forward to doing them again next year! Team Searcher

Let’s Talk Hook-up/Shimano Seminar

August 27th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We are out on a 1.5 day Lets Talk Hook Up/Shimano seminar trip. Currently we are 85 miles from home and we have had a chance to catch some 40-70 pound bluefin tuna this morning. We haven’t landed very many–six so far. And we have one fish hooked. It doesn’t happen very often when you get a chance at this size fish on a shorter trip like this so we are feeling pretty fortunate. Dave Goske is pictured with Capt Art and a nice 50 pound bluefin tuna. We have caught a few snall bluefin and some small yellowtail as well. There is a lot of time left and other boats are seeing schools of fish, More later, Team Searcher

Still trying

August 25th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: It is great to be on this trip again with all the familiar faces that were great friends of Dick Uranga. We are honored to take this group out in memory of Dick.He was a great man and a very dear friend of the Searcher family. The weather has been great. The fishing has been slow so far. We made the long run down to 165 miles where there has been good fishing for bluefin tuna. Unfortunately we had the wrong day. We only caught three bluefin for our efforts, with a few small yellowtail and two nice dorado. We have moved up closer to home to get more fishing time.We have had some action on small yellowtail so far and we are headed to an area where other boats are seeing signs of bluefin tuna. We will be there this afternoon.
