Different day and traveling south

September 11th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We didn’t have the same good luck this morning as we yesterday morning. We saw fish but it wouldn’t bite for us. We had hoped to get a few more bluefin tuna before travelling south to try for yellowtail. We landed some 15-20 pound bluefin at daylight and then didn’t catch anything after that. We departed for the yellowtail zone at 10:30 looking for kelp paddies with yellowfin tuna and dorado. We had some success the rest of the day with a few small yellowfin and a few nice-size dorado.
Looking forward to tomorrow!

Back on the bluefin!

September 10th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Great fishing this morning with steady action on 30 to 50 pound bluefin tuna. A flyline sardine on 40 pound floro-carbon and mono with a 4/0 circle hook has been the outfit of choice so far. Pictured is Dan Ranta from Vista with his Dad Adrian and friends Tim and Jeremy all from Minnesota. Everyone has had a good chance at these quality bluefin tuna.

One of the best days

September 10th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We’ve had excellent fishing for quality bluefin tuna all day today. I’m sure the average fish is 40 to 45 pounds. I can’t recall having a better day this season as far as the quality is concerned, and everyone had multiple chances at landing one of these bluefin tuna. A tackle tip for today was to use a circle hook, as these fish have teeth so if you use a standard J-hook you had a pretty good chance of getting bit off. Team Searcher

More action

September 8th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Howdy anglers: More action for us today on yellowfin tuna and a few more dorado. We did manage to catch bluefin also. The wind has been nice for us and we’re looking for more good angling and hope to see ya on the water soon. Here’s another nice yellowfin caught by Sean Drabek jr. of Wildomar, CA. Good angling and hope to see ya on the water, Capt Aaron

What a day!

September 7th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Howdy anglers: As talked about today fishing was phenomenal! We have a nice grade of yellowfin–up to 30lbs– and some really nice dorados too. We’re moving up the line tonight to be closer to home and get some more fishing time before we call it a already a very nice trip. Here’s a sample of the nice dorado we caught today by Peter Le of Pasadena, CA. Nice dorado, Peter.
Good angling and hope to see ya on the water soon, Capt Aaron and Searcher crew

Labor Day wrap-up

September 2nd, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Conditions are a little different day today with not much bkuefin tuna in the count. We had foggy conditions all morning so it was difficult to work. Yesterday we saw spots of fish on the surface and today there was no way to see them. We did have some good action on yellowfin tuna, however. We had some fish on the troll combined with some fish on bait.We came across a kelp paddie in the fog and had good action on small yellowtail and yellowfin tuna as well. Jesse Brown, 13 years old, from Oceanside and Capt Joe are pictured with a nice size yellowfin tuna that Jesse caught on the troll.
We are very encouraged by the appearance of this yellowfin tuna and warmer water closer to home. Looks like it has the potential for a good September.
