Big bluefin on light line

Hello anglers; Timing is everything. Unfortunately, we are out here after several days of calm offshore weather. Now the wind and swells are up in that zone. However, there is some good fishing closer to home where the weather is better. We put the brakes on at 65 miles so we would have a chance to fish. We have 12 bluefin tuna aboard and half of those fish are 30-50 pounds. We plan to stay in this zone all day and put together a catch.

There is some space available on two 1.5 day trips on Sunday and Tuesday if you’re interested in trying for a quality bluefin tuna and some yellowtail.

Something must be brewing in the fishing chat rooms about passports since we are receiving so many emails and calls about it. At this time, a passport is not required on our trips, unless specified otherwise. A government-issued photo ID (drivers license) is sufficient for now.
We always suggest that a passport book or the cheaper passport card be obtained for the future, since that will probably become a requirement. All the application procedures are here: http://travel.state.gov/passport/
We would let everyone know with a LOT of lead time if a passport was required on a fishing trip, as they can take many weeks to receive after application.

Howdy anglers: Today the weather was up but the fish still bit. We’re headed home with some fish–yellowtail were 10 lb average and the bluefin were 12-40 lbs. We managed to get a single dorado too. We’re turning around on a 4-day adventure so stay tuned.

Tip of the day-When bringing your fish to color in choppy weather, try to keep the fish in the water by lowering your rod tip. It makes things much easier for the crew.

Howdy anglers: Once again we’re headed home with calm weather and a nice catch! We had action most of the day today fishing kelps. We had more variety today–we were lucky to add dorado to the day’s catch. The bluefin were 25-41lbs with the jackpot being a 41 pound bluefin tuna. Most of the yellowtail averaged 10 pounds. So we’re headed home and will be returning out on another 1.5 day trip tomorrow afternoon. Wish us luck!

Tip of the day: Patience is a virtue when in a tangle. It’s hard not to think “I’m gonna loose this fish!” But staying calm while the crew undoes a tangle for you helps everyone.

Howdy anglers: We’re headed home from our 1.5 day trip and we’re bringing fish home in calm weather! This morning for us was a little slow, but as the day went on we gathered fish from kelp to kelp. The yellowtail on the kelps were a average of 10 lbs. and the bluefin tuna were 25-30 lbs. anyways we had fun and caught some fish while doing it.

Hello all-We had a chance at some quality fish again this morning. They didn’t bite as well as we had hoped but we did have a chance. We drifted for a few hours and landed 15 of those 40 – 60 pound fish. We didn’t find anything after that. We looked in the same area as yesterday and the fish weren’t there. There was some good fishing for the rest of the fleet in the afternoon on smaller bluefin tuna which is positive for the future. As always it is great to have Norm Fujimoto and the boys JK and Darrin from Izorline aboard. We had a really nice group of fisherman. Sal Catania from Las Vegas won the sportsmanship trophy this year and we are looking forward to weighing the jackpot in the morning. Team Searcher

Hello anglers: We got lucky this morning and found a school right at daylight. We drifted for three hours and landed 16 nice bluefin tuna. Verteran long-ranger and Searcher regular, Ernie Seko, landed three fish–he had the hot hand this morning. Ernie is pictured with one of his fish.
