ACTION!

August 6th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: We’ve had good action on nice grade yellowtail this morning. Most of the fish are in the 18-20 pound range with a few bigger and a few smaller. We also landed five white sea bass and one halibut about 30 pounds. Hoping we can keep this up for awhile. Matt Gilchrist from Long Beach is pictured with his nice yellowtail.

Strictly Fishing Open

August 5th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: Unfortunately we don’t have much to report. It has been very slow fishing the past two days.We decided to take advantage of the good weather and stay offshore for tuna. The bluefin didn’t bite yesterday and we only caught a few nicer yellowfin today. Karin Bartels from New Jersey landed this nice yellowfin tuna this afternoon. We are headed for yellowtail tonight with high hopes of having some action for the next 2 days. Team Searcher

Izorline Open, day 2

July 31st, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Howdy anglers: We had a good start to a day that started before the sun rose. We stopped on a meter mark in the morning and they bit a little. We just stopped on a kelp that had some nice 20lb yellow tail and a few dorado in the mix. The weather is nice and we’re going for fish wish us luck.
Good anging and hope to see ya on the water soon,

OPAH!

July 31st, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Howdy anglers: Our day was made by starting with a opah and then shortly after the opah was landed, a large shool of bluefin bit for us into the dark. All the tuna were 25-40 lbs and the opah is going around 60-70lbs. We will find out at the dock. The weather is still nice, nothing more than 15 knots in our future, so wish us luck. Good angling and hope to see you on the water soon.

Izorline Open, day 1

July 30th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Howdy anglers: Today was a down day for the tuna compared to the last couple of days, but we did get a sample of the nice-grade tuna, some yellowtail and a few dorado. The weather is great and the forecast looks good too, so we’re gonna give it our best again tomorrow. Wish us luck.

Gary Smith Charter, day 2

July 29th, 2013|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers: The day started out a little slo, which is surprising with the amount of fish we saw late in the day yesterday. We spent part of the morning looking in the same area as yesterday, and then we went back to yesterday morning’s zone to see if the fish were there. We stopped on a few kelps and caught a few yellowtail. We decided to look a little further south. We got really lucky and had a troll fish and a school of bluefin came under us. We drifted for five hours and had steady fishing. The hot set-up was 40 pound test with 40 pound floro carbon and a 5/0 circle hook. A nose-hooked sardine or a belly hooked sardine worked well. The weather is great with light winds and no sea condition.
