Hookup On Searcher

A Let’s Talk Hookup trip aboard the Searcher arrived at Fisherman’s Landing September 15 after a five-day trip with owner-skipper Art Taylor and 26 passengers. They got another nice catch of larger yellowtail, many by baiting live market squid.

Taylor said green water didn’t diminish the bite or the squid fishing very much.

“We got our best fishing in the gray,” he noted, “and we had on good night bite for yellowtail on the dropper loop. The white seabass were mixed in. the weather was calm, and it got hot in the daytime with the sun out.”

Glen Kerr of Cypress won first place for a 39.8-pound yellowtail he bagged with a squish on a 3/0 ringed Owner Super Mutu hook tied to 40-pound Izorline. He had 60-pound Izor Spectra backing on a Saltist 40 reel and a Shimano seven and a half-foot rod.

Jeanette Caldwell of South Lake Tahoe was thrilled to take second place on her first trip. She got a 39.4-pound yellowtail. Bob La Hue of San Diego won third place for a 36.8-pound mossback.

News from Alijos Rocks

September 14th, 2010|Captain Mike's Blog|

Reports show excellent yellow-fin tuna fishing at Alijos Rocks. They are catching 30-60# yellowfin with an occasional 100# fish in there too. There are a few wahoo and dorado and yellowtail mixed in as well. We have a few spots open on our 7-day trips fishing that area departing 9/25 and 10/2.

Hello anglers, Today was a phenomenal day of fishing. We stayed busy most of the day in various spots at Cedros and everyone had a great day. The majority of the fish were in the 16 to 20 pound range with a few bigger ones first thing in the morning. A lot of the fish came on dropper-loops and yo-yo iron with a few fish on surface plugs. We had 23 white seabass today which was a pleasant surprise. Hoping for a repeat tomorrow. More then, Capt Art

Sep 13-Day’s end

Hello anglers, Well another excellent day of fishing here at Cedros Island! The day started out with some big yellowtail and a few white seabass. That bite continued with the smaller-grade fish biting for a while…smaller meaning 16 to 20 pounds and bigger meaning 25 to 40 pounds. The white seabass were in the 18 to 35 pound class. Some of the people that caught white seabass, got their first one ever so it was great to give them the opportunity. Everyone has enough yellowtail and a good time was had by all. We are ending our trip here and travelling home. More tomorrow, Capt Art

Hello anglers: The first day of fishing at San Benito was disappointing. We knocked and no one was home. We moved to Cedros, caught squid overnight and this morning, the yellowtail and white sea bass are bitin’! Full report later today.

Sept 12-mid day report

September 12th, 2010|Captain Mike's Blog|

Hello anglers, I have a mid day report from Cedros Island. We had an excellent mornig with great yellowtail fishing and a few white seabass thrown in. Rob Lahue from San Diego had 3 white seabass in a row along with 2 big yellowtail before breakfast this morning. It was really good fishing starting before daylight with mostly bigger yellows and the white seabass. It’s a little slow right now but we are hoping for another bite before the end of the day. Hello anglers, We are back in the fishing mode again and headed south to San Benito. We will arrive tomorrow afternoon. The signs of yellowtail are still good there, with other boats having success in the afternoon. The weather is great with light winds and calm seas. Capt Aaron had a great trip with lots of wildlife and plenty of birds during our annual pelagic bird watching trip. Mre tomorrow, Capt Art
