Cedros Island Remains Hot

The yellowtail at Cedros Island are still chewing bait, jigs and just about anything else that falls into the water. Art Taylor took his Searcher anglers there on a five-day trip, and they loaded up on ‘tails before heading up the beach to try some rockfishing. A couple of nice white seabass bit in the wee hours at the island, and one of them made it into the jackpot.

Mike Lee of San Francisco won first place for a 27-pound yellowtail. He said he bagged it at two AM on the dropper loop, about the same time the white seabass came through. He baited a sardine on a 6/0 Eagle Claw hook on 60-pound Izorline. He used a TLD 30 reel and a Seeker 655 Black Steel rod.

Raul Alarcon of Garden Grove won second place for the larger fish of his pair of whites, a 24-pounder. The other one went 22.6 pounds. Both came on the dropper loop. Tom Kang of Huntington Beach won third place for a 23-pound yellowtail.

Hello anglers, We had another great day at Cedros island–really good fishing in the morning with a lull mid-morning. After lunch we spent some time along the kelp line and had pretty good calico bass fishing. After that we went back to the yellowtail area and caught a few more before leaving. We are headed north tonight and hoping for not too bad a ride. More tomorrow, Capt Art

July 27-Day’s end

Hello anglers, We had excellent fishing for yellowtail today! Most of the fish average about 18 pounds. We caught fish on all methods today, primarily on yo-yo iron with a few fish on live bait (flyline with no sinker) and a few on dropper loops. Not too many on surface iron, but for those who worked at it they manged to land a few. Lots of fun was had by all and we are staying the night and trying here again tomorrow. More then, Capt Art

Hello anglers, Not much in the way of fish so far today, but we did see a bluefin tuna jumping. They weren’t interested in what we had to offer. Sound familiar? HOWEVER we are encouraged by the reports from Cedros island today with good fishing. We plan to be there tomorrow and we’ll get some fish on this deck! On the local scene, there was some good fishing for albacore late yesterday. There is a sign of fish today but they haven’t started to bite yet. Could be an afternoon bite. If you’re interested in 1.5 day trips we have some available starting Aug 3 and another one leaving on Aug 5. We still have plenty of spots available next month. Don’t miss out on a chance to catch an albie! More later, Capt Art
