Hello anglers, Today we started our day with a few albacore at sunrise and then we drove around for most of the day with just an occasional jig strike. After 6 pm we had our best action with a stop at dark for 35 albacore and 20 bluefin tuna up to 50 pounds. The Iwamura family did really well, landing 8 of the 20 bluefin tuna. Gary had 5 of the 8! We ended up landing 71 albacore and 20 bluefin tuna. The weather is great and so we are hopeful for an earlier bite tomorrow. There are still a few openings on our 1.5 day trip leaving the 19th, call Celia and get in on some of this great fishing. You will need a 25 and a 40 pound outfit and some 2/0 to 4/0 j-hooks for live bait fishing. More tomorrow, Capt Art

Great Albacore Catch by Bill Roecker

Searcher jackpot winners and Izorline rep Norm FujimotoArt Taylor docked his Searcher at Fisherman’s Landing July 7 after a four-day trip with 24 passengers.

“It was rough,” he said. “We had 20 knots of wind.”

The wind didn’t seem to bother the longfin, however, as several anglers managed to bag limits on the Izorline charter. The three best albies of the season were also among the catch, also the best of the season so far.

Chartermaster Norm Fujimoto said, “Our best stop was for 32 albacore. Everybody fished hard, and some guys got limits for their trouble.

Harold Guy of Canoga Park presented the best fish of the season to date, when he brought his 35-pounder to the scales for Taylor to weigh.

“I knew he was big,” said Guy, but I was surprised he was that big.”

Harold said he got the big boy on a sardine and a 3/0 ringed Super Mutu hook. He won first place in the jackpot, and also won the Izorline Trophy for the best fish on Izorline. Guy said he used 40-pound Izorline on a Daiwa Saltiga 30 L reel, on an eight-foot Shimano TC 4 rod.

Norm’s son Darren Fujimoto won second place for a 28.2-pound albacore. Pete Groshong of Phoenix took third place for his 27.2-pound albie.

Hey anglers, Today was a disapointment. We had really high hopes for today based on yesterday’s action, but those darn albies didn’t show this morning. As of 2 p.m. today nobody has located them. We only had 5 albies in the time we had today before calling it a trip. The conditions are the same with an edge in the same place and the temperature is the same also. But there is one change–a few bluefin tuna were caught in the area which is completely different. We didn’t see any bluefin in the two days prior to today. We are grateful for the past two days of fishing and everyone is going home happy with a few albies. It would have been nice to land a few more, but maybe next trip. Hey anglers, We had good albacore fishing again today. We landed 109 albies from 9 am until 2:30 pm. Catching got very slow after that, so we are happy to have the fish we caught. Long-time Searcher passenger, Hal Guy from Canoga Park, landed a fish that will weigh at least 25 pounds and there were several other fish over 20 pounds–good quality today! We will stay the night and try again in the morning and hope for a few more albacore. The weather is choppy, but when the fish are biting you don’t notice it as much. More tomorrow, Capt Art Allen Adden Albacore Action:
