Searcher angler Bill Zemba won first and second place aboard the five-day tripArt Taylor docked his Searcher September 10 after a five-day Let’s Talk Hookup/976 TUNA open charter with 20 anglers.

“It was slow at Guadalupe,” said Art, “so we went down to Benitos for yellowtail and fished offshore on the way back up.”

Bill Zemba of Castaic won first and second places for his yellowfin tuna of 35.2 and 33.2 pounds. He said they came on sardines and 3/0 ringed Mutu hooks. He fished with 50-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon and 50-pound Big Game line on a Penn Torque reel and a Calstar six and a half-foot Grafighter rod.

“It took about ten minutes on the big one,” he said. “I was lucky; I got the only two tuna we got on the boat.”

Delane Lytle of Granada Hill won third place for a 30.2-pound yellowtail. Another angler remarked that he had a yellowtail much larger than the other fish up to the boat when a white shark ate it.

Hey anglers, Today we fished offshore looking for yellowfin tuna and dorado. We had an area where we had several jigstikes on mixed-size tuna with the majority of the fish being 15 to 18 pounds. We released some smaller ones. We caught a total of 46 yellowfin tuna and 5 dorado. It appeared that there was a fair amount of fish in the area but we couldn’t stay long. Maybe next trip we will spend the day there. There is still room on our 6 day leaving Sunday. Capt Art

Hey Anglers, Today we are at San Benito Island. We had excellent fishing for yellowtail. The fish were mixed sizes from 12 to 30 pounds. For the angler that stayed with yo-yo jigs, they had a great day with the dominant color being “scrambled egg” and “green and yellow.” There was good fishing on dropper-loops and live sardines. We had steady fishing for most of the day and everyone caught some fish. Headed north tonight to try for yellowfin tuna. More tomorrow, Capt Art

Hey Anglers, We left the dock with high hopes for good fishing at Guadalupe island. The reports were good coming from there so we elected to go straight there. Unfortunately yesterday and today were very slow, with just a few yellowtail and a few yellowfin tuna. We are currently travelling east to San Benito island. We arrive there at daylight tomorrow. More then, Capt Art

Howdy anglers, We’re headed in after a great day of fishing. We started the morning with a kelp that we drifted on for a couple hours and caught 30 yellowfin tuna, 22 dorado, 3 yellowtail and 3 skipjacks. Then we trolled around for awhile until we found a very large herd of common dolphins and proceeded to catch 30 more yellowfin and threw in 3 albies in the mix to finish off the day. The weather is still very nice and we hope it stays around for a while. We finished the trip with 88 longfins up to 25 lbs and 62 yellowfin up to 38lbs, 22 dorado and 3 yellowtails. Good angling and hope to see you on the water soon, Capt. Aaron

Howdy anglers, We have finished our first full day of our 3-day trip with Capt. Kevin. To start off our weather is awesome. The boat barely moves when we’re drifting! Our targeted species today were tuna, and tuna we caught, . The fish are fairly close so we were able to fish the afternoon the day we left, we fished the same area today, and will be doing the same tomorrow. Our totals for yesterday were 27 longfins and today we had 60 longfins along with two yellowfin tuna. The yellowfin were up to 38lbs and the albies were up 25lbs. So were gonna give ’em heck tomorrow and finish up our three day. Hope to see you on the water soon and good luck, Capt. Aaron
