Hello again, anglers: We left on our Labor Day Special 3-day trip today. This afternoon we picked up some albacore. We’re going to try for some more tuna tomorrow. Wish us luck, Capt Kevin
It was a crazy day on the local waters today and unfortunately we did not connect with the tuna like a few other boats did. We went where the fish weren’t. We caught 18 dorado and 24 yellowtail for 27 anglers. The jackpot was a 20 # yellowtail. We’ll be out for a 3-day trip this weekend.
This 5-day trip had 17 anglers and they caught 95 yellowtail, 37 yellowfin tuna, and 2 dorado. The jackpot winners are:
Guadalupe is slowly rounding into shape, thinks Art Taylor, Searcher owner-skipper. He docked his boat at Fisherman’s Landing August 24 after a five-day trip with 17 anglers.

George Hartlmaier of Brianhead, UT won first place for a stout 88.2-pound yellowfin. He bagged that baby with a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook and a 40-pound rental outfit.
“Please put in a plug for my shop,” he said. “It’s George’s Ski Shop in Brianhead.”
Tanner Huffer of San Clemente made his second lineup shot in the past few weeks. He took second place for a 62.4-pound tuna he caught on a Tady AA jig in blue and white, on 30-pound line. The young waterman is on the surf team at San Clemente High.
Damon Nahem of Islamorada, Florida, won third place for a 34.8-pound yellowtail.
Hey anglers, We didn’t get too much action last night–just a few yellowtail. We moved to the north end of the island at daylight and we had some fair action on good-size yellowtail. We hooked 30 nice fish and landed seven. We left the island at 10 am and are headed home. Capt Art
Hey anglers, We are still at Guadalupe Island. We had a tough day today with not much action. We caught a few fish at every stop, but nothing would produce what we would consider a bite. We did manage to land 26 nice yellowtail and 11 yellowfin tuna. Three of those fish were really nice ones, with one fish–a 70 pounder– caught by newbie George Hartlmaier from Parawon, Utah. And Tanner Huffer from San Clemente caught a 50 pounder. Mas Kaneko from LA and the crew landed a 40 pounder. We are staying the night and fishing for a few hours in the morning before heading home. More tomorrow, Capt Art
Hey anglers, Another day at Guadalupe Island–great weather and good fishing. The yellowtail were all good size–20 to 25 pounds–and a few yellowfin tuna–18 to 25 pounds. We didn’t have a steady bite in any one place today, but we caught fish every where we went. There are good signs of fish in several spots. We saw a couple of bigger tuna today and we hooked and lost three of them. I’m guessing they were in the 50 pound range. Maybe tomorrow, Capt Art
Hey anglers, We started our trip today at the north end of Guadalupe Island and we had a little action on good-size yellowtail and some 20 pound yellowfin tuna. We arrived at noon and started to hook fish right away. After we got everyone’s drag adjusted to the right tension, we started to land a few fish. At about 3:30 pm the fish quit biting, so we moved on. We tried a few spots heading south with not much action after leaving the north end. We have high hopes for tomorrow, Capt Art
This 3-day trip had 26 anglers and they caught 4 bluefin tuna, 34 albacore, and 5 yellowfin tuna. The jackpot winners are:

Ken Roberts of Fullerton won the jackpot for a 36-pound albacore. He found it with a sardine on a 3/0 Super Mutu hook, and used 30-pound Big Game line on a Shimano 20/40 reel and a Seeker six-foot rod.
Richard Hoagland of Newport Beach won second and third places for a 32-pound albie and a 30-pound yellowtail.
