Thanks to Kent Cremolini and Qualia Reels for their sponsorship of this June 5-day trip!
Hey anglers, We are headed south 215 miles to try for albacore and bluefin tuna. It is a long run for a 3-day trip but right now it is where the productive fishing has been. We have a great load of sardines and good weather. One boat had 50 albacore and 8 bluefin today so the signs are still there. Looking forward to tomorrow with a 10 am eta in the zone, Capt Art

“It was an awesome trip,” said Kent. “We had really good people on the boat.”
“We fished a bit on the way down and then fished offshore again on the way back,” said owner-skipper Art Taylor to dock reporter Bill Roecker.
“We had good fishing at the island, with near-limits of yellowtail. Those fish were mostly 15 to 18 pounds, and they bit on the yoyo iron and on bait. Not many tried the surface iron.”
Searcher regular Mark Seals of Cambria wailed on the albacore, catching a two-day limit of ten. His best one weighed about 24 pounds.
Doug Nance of San Diego took 15 minutes to wrestle with the trip’s best bluefin, a jackpot-winning 29-pounder.
“He fought well,” said Nance, who baited a sardine on a 3/0 ringed Mutu hook he said he found on the deck. He fished with 20-pound Ande line, a Torium 14 reel and a seven-foot Fenwick rod.
Dave Bell of San Diego won second place for a 25-pound yellowtail, and chartermaster Cremolini bagged third place for his 24.6-pound bluefin.
Mid-morning report from Art: They caught 38 albacore and 2 bluefin before turning the boat for home. The albacore are 15-20# and were caught primarily on live bait. The weather is also good now!
Hey anglers, This morning we had 4 hours to fish for albacore and bluefin tuna. Another boat had good fishing for both species yesterday and so we ran out to the area from Cedros. We arrived at daylight and had a jigstop right after. We caught six albies and two bluefin. We had 6 or 8 more stops for a total of 41 albacore and 3 bluefin tuna to finish our trip. Not too bad for four hours! We had a lot of fun with regulation albacore fishing–meter marks and boils in the chum, resulting in jig stops and bait fish. A great trip to start 2009! Looking forward to next trip, Capt Art
Hey anglers, Awesome yellowtail fishing again today! Most of our fish were caught in the morning and we didn’t have to work too hard for them–meaning the fish were on the surface and easier to find than yesterday. The conditions were just right with almost no wind or sea, and the fish wanted to bite a little. Once again live sardine and yo-yo jig was the primary method. I think that everyone has enough yellowtail onboard. We don’t have full limits but that is OK. We accomplished what we’re trying to do by getting action for everyone and putting some fish in the well. The good news is that there was some albacore and bluefin tuna caught today by another boat so things are looking up for tomorrow. We will be in the area at daylight and will have the morning to try for some tuna. Our weather is flat, calm now and the forecast looks good. More tomorrow, Capt Art
Hey anglers, We had a great day at Cedros Island today in spite of the tough conditions (20-30 knots of wind) for most of the day. We had good fishing for 14-18 pound yellowtail, with steady action for most of the day. The majority of the fish were caught on live bait with a flyline rig of 30 to 40 pound line and a 2/0 hook. There were a lot of fish caught on the blue and white yo-yo jig and 50 pound line. We had a great dinner and everyone is looking forward to a good night;s sleep and another good day of yellowtail fishing. More tomorrow, Capt Art
